According to an article in the New York Daily News, a source close to Kobe Bryant as well as a team official in the Knicks organization, have said that Kobe Bryant's first choice at the end of his contract would be to play for the Knicks. Kobe Bryant playing in New York however is highly unlikely considering that the Knicks are over the salary cap. None the less, here is the story:

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Everyone has opinion about where Bryant, who can become a free agent this summer, might end up. The most plausible scenario has him reconciling with Shaquille O'Neal and returning to the Lakers. Another popular scenario is for Bryant to be reunited with Jerry West in Memphis.

But there is also one long-shot possibility that should be of interest to the Knicks. The Los Angeles Times recently quoted a person close to Bryant as well as a team official saying that Bryant's first choice would be to play in New York.</div>

To tell you the truth, I don't really like reading all the rumors regarding Kobe Bryant because he knows what's best for him. If he wants to stay in Los Angeles where he has been all his life, from 1996 to his 3 titles, then so be it. If he wants to go to New York and bring up a struggling knicks team, then that's by his decision. People should just sit back and relax rather than write ridiculous articles because nobody knows where he wants to go but Kobe himself.

Wow, the Knicks. The last team I would have thought he would go to, If he's gone, hopefully we'll still be able to make a run at it with Shaq-Malone-Payton, but I'm not going to go there yet. Rather Kobe leaves or stays, he's a Laker forever.[IMG]

Even though I believe none of this is true, Kobe will do what he wants to do at the end of the season, these articles mean nothing to me.

If I were Kobe, I'd stay a Laker. He was brought up by the Lakers as a rookie, he's won titles with the Lakers, 3 of them. The Lakers are one of the heavy favorites to win a fourth one, so why go to New York and play under a different system? Makes no sense to me. I'm tired of that word money. Shouldn't it be about loyalty?

If Kobe doesn't return to the Lakers they are pretty much screwed for the future.Shaq,Payton and Malone aren't going to last forever.Malone and Payton will be retired in maybe 2 seasons.L.A need a back-up plan somewhere.

Insider sources say Kobe has told the Clippers to keep some cap space open for the summer.*Hint hint*

Like I've said already, I don't listen to those "sources." Because it's mostly all rumors. Speculation. Whatever Kobe does will be the right decision that only he wants.

I had a strange dream last week that kobe was playing for the kings. Kinda crazy huh?
Thats not gonna happen though (I hope)
If kobe wants to continue winning, his best bet would be to stay put here in lakerland

i wouldnt mind seeing him stay in L.A. with either the Clips or the Lakers...if he stayed witht he clips, he wouldnt have to move...but you also have to remember his basketball future is not in is hands.

Thats not his main focus, what Kobe wants is to be "The man" thats all it comes down to now.If he stays in L.A...Shaq will still be the guy who Lakers go to.Kobe wants a team of his own now.The spotlight, the stats the glory. He has 3 rings he wants a fresh start elsewhere.Thats why going to the Clippers would help him while he can still stay in L.A.Having Elton Brand as your 2nd option is pretty damn good.He would have good supporting cast to help him with Brand,Maggette,Kaman and maybe Richardson if he re-signs.But with Kobe there I doubt Q would return.

Wherever Kobe does go whether he stays with the Lakers or goes someplace else, I'll still buy his jersey.

It's up to Jerry Buss, and Mr. Buss has already said that he doesn't want to see Kobe leave, so I trust that he will do everything he can to make sure Kobe stays as a Laker.

The New York article sounds like a typical Peter Vecsey pipedream story. The Knicks only chance to get Kobe is a sign and trade deal, but they do not have anything the Lakers would want in return for Kobe.

The only team I would want to see Kobe play for besides the Lakers is Minnesota. I think him and KG could dominate the league if they were teammates. I was hoping KG would've signed a short term deal with Minny and eventually signed with the Lakers to play with Kobe, but it's not going to happen. I definately do not wnat him playing for the Spurs.

the damn new York papers always write about blah blah.... we're going to trade Charlie Ward for Tracy Mcgrady, Travis Knight for Jermaine O'Neal... the papers talk a lot, kinda like Sam Smith, who thought Rose and Chandler would be alright for Kobe. I don't think the Knicks got a "snowflake chance in hell" of getting Kobe there. The media there are ruthless, the town people complain complain, and well it's just a crappy team.

Out of those five teams you had listed with cap space, I don't think Kobe would dare want to play in any of them... Spurs are the best out the bunch, with Kobe obviously doing his thing in SA but I think he won't go. I actually think Clippers are the front runners to sign him, just cuz he has his wife who is an aspiring "actress?, model?, or show biz person".... not really sure what shes up to lately, but her family and Kobe's family (little daughter) are in LA.

The big question to ask is will Sterling offer Kobe the money? The Lakers can offer him the most tho out of any team.
