Was this already mentioned? There was an article in the paper yesterday about the Lakers getting started for the new season. The article ends with:

"The Western Conference is just brutal and it's getting worse this year with Portland emerging," Bryant said. "I think [complacency] is a pitfall for us. I think that's something we'll have to be conscious of."

Cool, huh? People are going to be gunning for us.

I think that was a subtle hint that he is going to be a Blazer next season . . .

If Kobe Bryant ever dons the Scarlet & Black, I will suspend my Blazer fandom until he's off the team. I'm completely serious.

BTW, no way does Kobe go anywhere but NY if he leaves LA.

Disagree. I could easily see him playing in Chicago, or Miami, or Dallas, or even Golden State.

Hell, he would have been a Bull last year if Chicago and LA could have made the numbers work on a trade.

In retrospect, you're right and I'm wrong. I'm not sure I could see him in GS, but I think I could see him in Philly.

We have the richest owner in sports, why wouldn't he play here?

Because we're backwoods, small-time. Kobe is too big for our little town.

In a game of one-on-one would root for Osama Bin Laden over Kobe Bryant.

Because his ego would never let him play somewhere that gets so little national exposure. In Chicago, the hype would be all about "the second coming of MJ." In NY, he would be in the media capital of the world. In Miami, he would make South Beach his South Bitch. In Dallas, they still get plenty of exposure because of Mark Cuban. I could see him going to SF and playing for Golden State if his relationship with the Lakers went south, just to go to the anti-LA in NorCal.

As for maxiep's Philly idea, maybe, but I doubt it. He's from there, but I also think he looks upon the city with disdain from when they booed him when he got the MVP in the All-Star Game there.

Didn't Kobe talk about possibly going to Europe.

If so maybe it isn't all about exposure.

Huh? He'd be a superstar across the Continent. Are you saying that no one lives in Europe?

I heard an interview clip with Kobe on one of the national shows and he was saying that whole thing was blown out of proportion. He said a European journalist asked him if he would ever consider playing in Europe, and Kobe said he replied jokingly "Yeah, if they pay me $50 million." Then everyone ran with it and said "Kobe would play in Europe for $50 mil."

There's not a chance in hell Kobe would go play in Europe. He wants to be known as the best player in NBA history, and bailing to go to Europe would kinda hinder that opportunity.

Yes maxiep, I'm saying no one lives in Europe.

I'm not refering to the fact that the NBA is the most recognized league in the world or that everyone considers the NBA to be the best league in the world and most players goal is to play in the NBA. No my point was no one lives in europe. In fact I would not even condsider it a legit continent.

Well that makes a lot more sense . . . and puts me in my place much more about Kobe playing in europe.

I didn't think he would play in europe, I just heard through the grapevine that he made some comment about it.

September was very busy. I sang at a benefit in LA, did my cabaret show in NYC, and then toured Europe as a member of a celebrity basketball team playing on several US bases for the USO. Now, I'm settling down and auditioning for jobs.

He went straight from the caves to the NBA.

(yes, I know he actually did go to King Abdulaziz Universit... but I think he just played club level there)
