With Kobe's performance last night , he secured himself a role as one of the greatest scorers in NBA history. He's gotten ahead of guys like Baylor and Gervin and Thomson, overall i would rank him as number 3 in NBA history.

    1. Wilt Chamaberlain (holds every scoring record in existence)
    2. Michael Jordan -Only player to hold 10 scoring titles
    3. Kobe Bryant -Although no scoring titles yet, 81 point game, enough said. Had 62 in 3 quarters as well.

I agree, and I believe that this season's Scoring Title goes to Kobe, If he doesn't get an injury or smth. I don't know but I just believe that he's going to drop those 40+ games as often as before, but let's see. Maybe Iverson scores 101 for next.[IMG] (joke)

Kobe has to be one of the most talented basketball players in history. He's still young and he has already scored 81 points in a single game. His ability on the offensive end of the court is something exciting to watch, whenever he plays. I have to agree with you on this season's scoring title going to him, but there is still a lot of the season left, so who knows....

Nope. Kobe is having one of the best scoring seasons in league history, but Iverson has had a much better career thus far scoring the ball. I'd rank AI ahead right now. This season though for Kobe is a season only MJ and Wilt have done in terms of scoring.

The reason before Kobe's numbers were not as high is because he wasnt the first option. Now that he is he is showing everyone what he can do. I say 3rd is about right.

Depends on how you look at it. Overall, AI is the better offensive player for the course of both guys career. Why? First of all he is #3 in All-Time PPG. And #2 All-Time PPG in the Playoffs. But the thing is that ever since AI came in the league he's been a prolific scorer. And till this day he still, he's never slowed down, he's only improved virtually every year. And do not forget that he is averaging 33 PPG.

AI has yet to go on his scoring run like Kobe, so who knows what you will get from him. An 80 point performance? I highly doubt it, but back to back 50 point games, seven consecutive 40+ point games, 60 point games aren't far-fethced. The way he is going he could easily average as much points as Kobe this season. Right now Kobe is the better offense player. But once Kobe starts cooling down, and AI gets hot, AI will suddently be the best offensive player. They are like neck at neck, but obviously right now Kobe is the man. And while I say an 80+ point performance is very unlikely, you never know what you might get from one of the only three players in NBA history that has 4 or more scoring titles. At the end of the day, both guys are easily Top 4-5 best offensive players to ever play this game.

Kobe is the best scorer this league has seen IMO. He is just un-stoppable when he gets in his zone. Nobody can guard him one-on-one. Nobody.

    Don't get me wrong

Kobe is one of the greatest scorers of all time don't get me wrong, but at the same time he does shoot the ball, more than any one in the entire league ever. I'm not sure but I think he was 26 for 40 something or some where around that. Just imagine any other player in the nba that has the i will not lose mentality like Kobe and the green light to shoot the ball the way he does and I think you would see more people scoring in the upper 40's and 50's on a regular basis. But than I guess the organization would really have to belive in the player to let him do that.

Saying he's unstoppable when he's in his zone doesn't mean much. Guys like Iverson, McGrady, Allen, or Carter are all pretty much unstoppable when their shots are on and everything's going for them.

Very good point, but when Kobe gets in the zone he gets in the @ZONE@

But Kobe is in *his* zone (like 5 'levels' above everyone else's zones) so often and for such prolonged periods it's crazy.[IMG]

How exactly is Kobe a better career scorer than Shaq and AI?

Come on, i'm not a kobe fan by far, but give credit where it's due. As dominant as Shaq is he's never averaged 30 points a game. Ai is sick, but his size does limit his options. he can't post up. but AI with 4 scoring titles is defenitly up there.

Recent happenings stick in people's heads more. 81 points is extremely nice, but Shaq has a career average of 26.5 PPG on 57.8% FG. Shaq can't be the volume scorer Kobe is though, but he's done his scoring for longer. Career wise, Kobe's not ahead of guys like Jerry West and Kareem.

    Great answer. [IMG]

For some reason people forget that Shaq has always elevated his game in the playoffs as well (I don't believe that those stats go towards career totals). Guys like Shaq and AI made a more immediate impact than Kobe did, and have kept it up throughout their careers.

Kobe is playing out of his mind, but I still don't consider him a better CAREER scorer than Shaq or AI at this point.

Kobe is MacDaddy you know when Kobe's on he's on nothing you can do about it. Kobe is usual player he gets double team and still finds a way to get a shot up. I think he's MVP this year, and I hope to see Kobe in his prime for years to come.

it's tough to say right away he's 3rd all time, i'd say so far iverson has had a better career, kobe doesn't even have a single scoring title. He also doesn't shoot for great average, he's shooting 45% lebron is shooting 49%, lebron has 5 points less per game but shoots 5.5 less shots. I know it's impressive when kobe blows up and goes on streaks, but David Robinson scored over 70 pts once and he's certainly not a top 5 scorer
