this discussion is over now right? Jordan NEVER blew a lead that big in the finals, he just wouldn't let it happen. For anyone who watched Jordan with the Bulls, was there ever a time when the game was close going into the fourth quarter you didn't assume Jordan would take over, and did take over, and win the game. I mean if the Bulls are within 5 points of your team going into the 4th.. you knew it was over right? Kobe has failed miserably to put on such a performance and last night he couldn't even keep a 20 point lead in the 3rd for disappearing. Great players like Jordan don't let that happen in the Finals. Gimme Jordan and then Jerry West as the best 2 SG's ever.

Its moreso their fault for making ridiculous statements before anything was proven (not only Kobe =/> Jordan but also sweeping the Celts, champinoship is guaranteed, this team can win 6 championships in the next 10 years lol, etc etc.) Its a mean thing to say as the Lakers go down 3-1 but they also went waaaaayyyyy ahead of themselves for a while there, which they're known to do. And yes, this destroys any thought of Kobe being remotely close to Jordan unless he really dominates and the Lakers win all of the next 3. Kobe has had some good games but he hasn't had any of his epic "classic Kobe" games. That was something that made Jordan special, he couldn't be stopped and especially not when it all mattered. Kobe's had some good games but he hasn't just completely dominated down the stretch to will his team to win a game.
Was there any need to make another thread on this? As for the topic, nobody ever said Kobe was better than Jordan

This is in the "Out of Bounce" forum As a Celtic fan, I don't know what he was expecting to read when he entered the 52 page game thread in the Laker forum. Celtic worshipping? "since I had to read through that 52 page Laker love fest for the finals" You had to read? No you didn't. And of course there's going to be a "Laker love fest," it was in the Lakers forum. You want us to bash our own players?

Just because your team has the 3-1 lead, it doesn't really give you the right to rub everything in our face </div> Very debatable. LeBron has beaten the Pistons basically by himself with an incompetent coach and a mediocre supporting cast. Kobe hasn't won a playoff series without Phil or Shaq/Gasol and I believe all those series he won his team was one of the best in the league during the regular season. Also Wade won the finals as the main guy on his team, he did have a good coach and a good supporting cast (not to mention the guys in stripes hanging on his nuts) but still thats 1 for Wade and 0 for Kobe.
It doesn't really matter You ask the players in the league, the coaches, everyone says Kobe is the best player in the league. I remember there was a poll for NBA players a while back this season, saying who they hate to go up against the most, and Kobe won by pretty much a landslide. I'll take the player's opinion's over yours. I'm not trying to offend you or anything, or start up anything, but obviously I believe the players who actually play in the NBA should know more than you or me.

He was obviously kidding with the game thread quip.
Well forgive me, my mistake. I'm still kind of pissed over the loss yesterday, and I'll probably be having a short fuse with Celtic fans for a week or so As for the thread, I agree Kobe isn't on Jordan's level. Jordan would have never let his team blow a 20 point lead at home. Kobe really disappointed me with his play last night, I thought he was going to take over when we needed him the most. But obviously that did not happen, because of a combination of factors, one of them being the Celtic's great defense. With that being said though, one game does not erase the hundreds of games where he did come up big and did dominate.

Besides there wasn't an official thread for the finals in the playoffs section. oh and there were enough NON-Lakers fans in there rooting against the C's too.. I duely noted that. and did you have to come in here an read this.. no, but you chose too, just like i chose to go there.

I don't know if that was a bit of resentment towards the Bulls spanking the Pacers in the 90's, or the pressure to promote today's players. either way it was stupid.

If you take out his first 3 years the numbers are much more comparable and I think Kobe has the edge. Granted, I never saw West play aside from highlights so I can't talk about his ability in clutch situations but I do think Kobe is a much better clutch player than we saw last night. I actually give him credit for his composure at the end of the game. When I was watching it I thought his ego would get in the way and he would force up ill advised shots but he did not do that. The defense collaped on him and he made the smart play and found an open guy. Of course he deserves some but I don't think you can give Kobe all or even most of the blame for this collapse.
After the game last night, the entire debate should be ended. End of story. Kobe will never be the player MJ was, and I don't think we will ever see another MJ. He was one in a million.
