The BC Lions Football Club announced today that defensive back Korey Banks has signed a contract extension through the 2012 season.

"Korey is one of our most consistent players on defence and this is an important extension for the club," said Lions GM and head coach Wally Buono. "He's a tremendous leader on the field and someone we have come to depend on for big plays at key moments."

Banks appeared all 18 regular season games as well as the 2010 West Semi-Final and shared the team lead in sacks with seven while adding team-highs in tackles for a loss (4), pass knockdowns (10), forced fumbles (3) and fumble returns (4). Korey also added 55 defensive tackles to rank fifth on the team. The lofty numbers earned the veteran defensive back a team nomination as Outstanding Defensive player and a West Division All-Star selection.

"I have enjoyed my time in BC and I believe we have all the ingredients of a championship-caliber team," said Banks from his offseason home in Atlanta. "Our defence really came into its own last season and I can't wait to get back on the field."

With five seasons under his belt, Korey has missed just one game and joined former Lions' defenders Eric Carter and Barron Miles in 2010 as the only three players in Lions history to be named an divisional All-Star in each of their first five seasons with the club. In the last six years, Banks has grabbed 33 interceptions - more than any other active CFL player.
