QUOTE

The Golden State Warriors have assigned center Kosta Perovic (COAST-a PEAR-a-vich) to the Bakersfield Jam of the NBA Development League, Executive Vice President of Basketball Operations Chris Mullin announced today.

Perovic, 22, has not appeared in any of Golden State’s first seven games during the 2007-08 regular season, spending the first five games on the inactive list. The 7-2 center, who was originally drafted by Golden State with the 38th overall selection in the 2006 NBA Draft out of Serbia, is a rookie this season after staying overseas to play the 2006-07 campaign in Serbia.

I saw some clips of his inside moves. He looks like he has some decent footwork or is learning some decent footwork. He's very coordinated which is a good sign that he can be an inside scoring threat. If he can get strong like Big Z or Yao he could be something of an inside/outside threat because of his euro-center shooting touch.

I don't think he'll be a good defender or the same shotblock type threat as either of the 7+ footers. Something tells me he'll probably get burned like Big Z does and he'll probably shotblock hopefully as well as most starting centers in the league. I'm feeling he'll probably won't get much rebounding done unless he works on establishing good position underneath the basket. Maybe that's the main reason why Nelson sent him down. He's not strong enough or athletic/quick to get away with being under-strengthed like Biedrins or Brandan Wright. Plus, if a big can't rebound, they're most likely not playing in Nelson's lineups.

As with all special big men, I think his finesse and his fundamentals will be important if he can get some power and defensive/rebounding ability to his game.

I heard he's got wonderful passing skills and he's one of those natural basketball minds that doesn't have to think about the play he just does it naturally. This is coming from the articles I've read about the guy on nbadraft.net and how the warriors brass likes how he plays in the team game. If it translates to the nba that would be great for him. Plus, he can already catch which is good. I'm not being facetious either, that's important!

I don't know how his game will translate, but I got a feeling he could be decent if he can be a mismatch worthy of his size on paper. His upside is definitely high considering few guys are that tall and can run the floor well and play like a real big man. Most guys that tall end up just being tall and then falling out of the league because they don't do much else. Hopefully with Perovic he doesn't share the same fate as the other young 7+ footers.
