<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (NetsDaily)</div><div class='quotemain'>Nenad Krstic has a two-year deal worth more than $5 million per year in place with a Russian team named Triumph and will sign there if the Nets don’t work out a sign-and-trade with another NBA club by midnight Monday. Krstic would prefer to remain in the NBA, and he would be able to return after a year should he go to Russia.</div>

[IMG] Krstic Could Be Headed To Russia, Too - Fred Kerber - New York Post Nets Blog

Well, we could go one route: sign-and-trade, get as much value for him as possible.

Or, let him recover next season in Russia, hope that he improves substantially from last season, and sign him to a good, fair contract next season.

The only thing is...who knows if, after not signing a contract this season, he's gonna wanna come back next season...depends on how nicely the Nets FO treated him, I guess.

I wonder if he is giving the Nets a chance to work out a S&T with Atlanta in a bigger deal for Josh Smith?

    Oh he can screw himself.

The Nets will get practically nothing in return, I rather they wait the year for him to come back.

    That's a bit harsh.

Can't believe a team in Europe is paying the equivalent of $10mm for Nenad for the season. Crazy. He looked pretty bad last season. Where are they getting all the money? They don't have the lucrative TV deals we have. They don't have the fancy luxury boxes or big arenas. I doubt their tickets are that expensive or even that they sell out their games. Can't be all from endorsements.

That's a good question. Maybe they have super-rich Mark Cuban/Paul Allen-type owners over there, too.

my understanding is that basketball teams in europe don't make a profit; they are a vehicle for the super-rich to have fun and stay in the public eye.

Wish the Nets were going to Russia to play exhibition games in preseason rather than UK and France. Sounds like some good competition there and I'm curious to see some of those ex-nba players going at against us.

So he doesn't want to be resigned?

Sean+Krstic+Warriors pick+expirings for Smith? Maybe throw in another pick?

I can't see us going for Smith; or anything for that matter. I just see us letting him go.

Sounds like a good package. Depending on the salary for Krstic we have enough expirings to take back Claxton too. There are BYC issues so I'm not sure how all this plays out in the end.

    Swift $6.2
    KVH $3.8
    Swat $1.2
    Krstic ??

Why? I can totally see Thorn and Kiki being enamored with Smith and they keep hinting at wanting to make some serious moves.

So do you not see them making a big move like that because you don't think they want to or because they won't be able to make a deal?

I'm sure they'd want to, but I just don't see there being enough time. Now, if Kristic gave them a week to decide, that'd be a different story.

Depends how long they've been working on it. For all we know this could be something they've already been talking about for a week.

If we get Smith, move Vince this year or next.

Let me make clear that this is just my uninformed opinion.

Let's go under the assumption that there was no randomness associated with the Nets' moves so far. that they had a list of players that they wanted to purge from the roster, and either had a list of particular targets to acquire, or a list of attributes to acquire, which have been met by the players that they've obtained so far.

Josh Smith is a great player. No doubt. I guess he's mostly a PF and could also play SF, is that correct?

The fundamental question is how well he'd fit with the current makeup of the roster, with is clearly SG, SF, and PF-heavy. I mean, your backup PG is a SG, and your starting C could really be a PF; and the two non-roster invites that the team is drooling over would also be SGs that would be asked to play point in a pinch.

I just see the Nets' primary objective at this point is to acquire a decent mid-level veteran center, not another PF. To get Smith, you'd have to give up the Nets' best bargaining chips (as I see it), Sean, Swift's contract, and KVH. Not only that, but it would reduce the court time and effectiveness of all these other players the Nets went to such great pains to acquire.

I feel like the Nets have one more move left in them--packaging some of these assets (possibly including Hassell) for a $8-$10 million center, and opening up a roster spot for Hodge or Carroll. Getting Smith won't accomplish that.

Put a decent center on this team--let's just use Brad Miller as a placeholder here--and suddenly this team looks pretty good. Josh Smith is terrific, but would he help the team as much?

We can still cut Vince's salary.
