This is according to Dave Meltzer's Wrestling Observer newsletter: <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>During a recent tour of Europe promoting TNA, Kurt Angle said he was going to have an MMA match with either Tito Ortiz or Randy Couture before the end of 2008.</div> Angle, as you know, has had serious neck and spinal injuries which were never properly treated: <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>On April 11, 2003, Angle underwent neck surgery performed by Dr. Hai-Dong Jho to repair nerve and spinal damage, calcium buildup, bone spurs, and intervertebral disc problems. Rather than have Jho remove the afflicted discs and fuse his vertebrae together, Angle opted for a less conventional surgery where Jho removed only the spurs and selected portions of the discs. The alternative surgery reduced Angle's rehabilitation time from one year to three months.</div> Source: wiki Who is he kidding?
dude has either lost his mind or is just bs'ing. anyone see him on the premiere of Pros vs Joes?!?! hilarious!
Somehow, Randy Couture has signed on with HDNet. We currently have somewhere in the neighbourhood of eleventy-bajillion lawsuits going on between Cuban, Couture, and Zuffa. The point of this contract, which will begin when his UFC contract expires (which it won't, if the UFC gets their way--Randy hasn't lived up to his contract in terms of # of fights yet), is to set up a dream match between Couture and Emelianenko. <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>According to the filing, HDNet Fights has entered into a contract with Couture that is scheduled to commence upon the expiration of his Zuffa promotional agreement. At that time, the company plans to promote a fight between Couture and Fedor Emelianenko (Pictures) in Dallas, assuming terms can be reached with the highly regarded Russian heavyweight. The existence of an actual contract between HDNet Fights and Couture is believed to be key to the company’s action in Texas. Without it, it is unlikely that the court would find an actual controversy ripe for adjudication.</div> Source: 5 ounces
Ok, so here is the deal. Randy has signed with Cuban's promotion, and they have supposedly already signed Kurt Angle to be his first opponent. This gets a big WTF! Randy leaves the UFC to fight a newcomer?
If that's remotely true, it is beyond lame and Randy's stature is shrinking by the minute. The man was put up as a shining example of class in MMA and it looks like he's either going through a big mid-life crisis (dumped wife of 18 years, left gym to open his own in Vegas, wearing new bling) or his ego is outta control.
