There seems to me to be an odd moral issue here...she's fully within her rights to terminate the pregnancy, but if she doesn't, she has no rights over the child. Conversely, the "natural parents" have no say over whether or not their child can be aborted. Weird (to me at least).
Wow. I'm torn on this. First off, what in the fuck are they trying to keep having children for if she cannot hold a child to full term? They are being selfish and putting those children at risk for their entire lifetime if they are born undeveloped. What a bunch of fucking kooks. Second, their religious beliefs wouldn't let their embryos languish? Bullshit. If they were so religious they would have let nature take its course and not went the IVF route. If I were the parents of the embryo, I don't know if I'd want her carrying my child. She is not fit to have children and she's 39 years old. Fuck that. If I was going through the trouble of IVF, I sure as fuck wouldn't want to roll the dice with her as the surrogate.
I'm one of those weird kooks that doesn't think that abortion's the way to go, so I (or more appropriately, my wife) would carry the child to term, and then hand it over (and in case crandc's reading...yes, this is her view as well. ). Sometimes sacrifices are required to be made for your decisions. I also have a bit of a dilemma with freezing and storing embryos, but I don't know as much about that. It seems odd to me that you'd go through IVF and harvest more than the amount of eggs that you're planning to use, if you don't believe in "reduction" or "letting them languish" or abortion. I understand that it saves some cash over having to do it separate times, but cash savings don't trump (or at least, shouldn't) moral beliefs. How does this affect the family planning of the unpregnant parents? Does anyone know if they want another child dropped into their lap?
Call it extortion or blackmail or greedy or whatever you want, but I would drive to the abortion clinic and call the real parents and say I was about to have an abortion. THEN we could talk money. Yes, I am evil.
Inconsiderate of them to be creating children at their age, as they will likely not be actively around long enough to raise them thoroughly. Mother Nature or perhaps Karma has decided it's best they not reproduce anymore. That and the fact that there are already 130 million orphans worldwide makes me think huge, defective egos guide these people's thoughts and actions. I feel no pity for them.
