The Los Angeles Lakers were waiting for this day for a while now, and it has finally occurred. The Lakers defeated the Boston Celtics 92-83 to make their Christmas a joyful one, not only to them, but their fans. It was also Phil Jackson's 1000th career vicotry.

The win snapped the Celtics 19-game win streak and puts them in a tie for fouth place for the longest winning streaks in NBA history.

One Laker had this game to look forward to maybe more than any of his teammates, Kobe Bryant. Bryant had 27 points, nine rebounds, and five assists. A few of his assists came on the last couple of plays for the Lakers in which he dished the ball to Pau Gasol.

Pau scored 20 points on 50 percent shooting. Gasol scored seven of his points in the clutch moments of the final quarter.

Sasha Vujacic can now wear green again. He has not worn green since the loss to Boston in the finals. He and Lamar Odom led the bench unit with 10 points each.

The Lakers, who have been criticized for playing soft defense, held the Celtics to 16 points in the fourth quarter and only 38 points in the second half.

Boston was led by Kevin Garnett, who scored 22 points on 11-14 shooting. Paul Pierce scored 20 points, grabbed 10 boards, but also lost five turnovers. The Celtics only attempted eight free throws in the game.

Not only did the 19 game win streak end for the Celtics, but their 10 game road win streak was snapped as well.
