GM Kupchak Stands Pat The NBA's trade deadline came and went Thursday without the Lakers acquiring a player, a decision that preserves the team's future salary-cap and roster flexibility but does nothing to improve this season's playoff fortunes. "All I can say is compared to years past, we were more aggressive, and that's a two-way street," general manager Mitch Kupchak said. "You can be aggressive, but if you don't have something other teams want, it doesn't really matter. What was unusual from the past was we got as many calls as we made, which indicates to us that we have a lot of young players that are attractive to teams at certain levels." -- Los Angeles Daily News Jackson: Blame It On Red Phil Jackson wondered why the trading deadline is so early and why it can't be moved back to later in the season. He was told that it's an NBA rule that Commissioner David Stern has held firm to. Jackson didn't share that view, preferring to take a shot at somebody else. "I think it's because of Red Auerbach somewhere back there," Jackson said. Jackson and Auerbach, the legendary former Boston Celtics coach, have exchanged shots over the years. Both share the NBA record for most NBA championships as a coach with nine. -- Riverside Press-Enterprise
OK so Mitch got calls and although certain deals might have not been to great..he still couldn't figure something out of all that?! I fail to believe that...
What I don't get is he says that it's hard to make a trade when we don't have the peices teams want, but then the next sentence says that teams called about their younger players... so uh....what's the problem here Mitch?
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Shapecity:</div><div class="quote_post">"I think it's because of Red Auerbach somewhere back there," Jackson said. Jackson and Auerbach,</div> I can't help but laugh at this old peoples feud going on. Jackson should stop worrying about Red and worry about his team, maybe somebody needs to give him a book to read.
