The Lakers continue to pursue a trade for Dwight Howard, but there was no face-to-face meeting between Mitch Kupchak and Magic general manager Rob Hennigan on Tuesday.

The Lakers are prepared to trade for Howard without an assurance on a long-term extension.

But it is unclear if the Magic would trade Howard for Andrew Bynum without an assurance from him.

Both the Cavaliers and Rockets are prepared to be involved as a third-team.

If a Howard trade isn't feasible, the Lakers are prepared to walk away and resume extension talks with Bynum.

Sources say the Lakers' position to acquire Howard has been strengthened by bringing in Steve Nash two weeks ago. Sources also say reports of friction between Howard and Kobe Bryant are "overblown".

Howard attended Tuesday's Dodgers' game in Los Angeles from a luxury suite. He appeared on the JumboTron in the seventh inning to a loud ovation.
