Sunday, July 6 Illinois standout to play in summer league -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ESPN.com news services The Los Angeles Lakers have signed Illinois forward Brian Cook, the team's first-round pick in last month's NBA draft. Per team policy, terms of the agreement were not released, according to a statement from the Lakers public relations office released Sunday. Cook, the 24th overall selection, played all four years at Illinois. He was named third team All-America by the Associated Press and Big Ten Player of the Year after averaging 20.1 points and 7.6 rebounds a game his senior season. The 6-10 Cook averaged 13.2 points and 6.2 rebounds per game in 132 career games and ranks third all-time in Illinois history in scoring with 1,748 points and fifth in rebounding with 815 boards. Cook will participate in the Lakers' entry in the Summer Pro League.
