This an important game for us tonight. We have to respond after the collapse against Portland. The Lakers will have Kwame Brown back tonight, and the Pistons could be without Rip Hamilton tonight. He just injured his elbow in practice. The Pistons have gotten the better of us the last few seasons, even though the hard fought win we had against them last season, was a turning point for this Lakers team. I remember Ben Wallace praising the Lakers after we beat them in Detroit and saying this team is ready to win again. The Lakers have to defend homecourt again tonight after the disappointing road loss. PJax lectured Odom and Kobe about their turnovers, so look for both to be extra protective of the basketball tonight. I expect the Lakers to come out with a lot of anger and energy, making a concerted effort to get to the rim and draw fouls. Without Ben Wallace enforcing the middle, and Flip Saunders playing more zone defense, the Lakers will have to find the soft spots in the defense and make quick decisions with the basketball. Teams who play solid zone defense have had success against the Triangle offense, when the Lakers rely on shooting from the outside instead of working harder to penetrate the zone. In the Minnesota game, we saw the Lakers get baited into shooting jumpers late in the game, and it allowed the TWolves to come back from a 19 point deficit. The Lakers have to be more disciplined and patient on offense and score from the inside out. Andrew Bynum has to stay on the floor tonight and establish himself in the post. If he can force the Pistons to double team him, it makes life a lot easier for the rest of the team. The Lakers must capitalize on Phoenix losing again last night, and seperate themselves even further from the Suns in the Pacific Division standings. Some great news I heard on the radio last night. Kobe Bryant said the pain is gone and he felt "fantastic." Once he trusts his knee again, we'll see more explosive moves from Kobe.
Pistons are in a downfall right now, Lakers need to capitalize on that with rebounding and post up play.
