"We understand from a business standpoint there's a huge economic incentive with the luxury tax savings," Grant's agent, Mark Bartelstein, said Tuesday. "We know it has nothing to do with Brian's abilities as a player and has everything to do with dollars." Grant was the Lakers' second-highest paid player after Kobe Bryant and still is owed $29.8 million on his contract. He averaged a career-low 3.8 points and 3.7 rebounds last season while battling chronic tendinitis in his knees. </div> Lakers Waive Grant
theres a lot of teams who would be interested...grant is a nice post defender, rebounds very well and has a decent jump shot...he could help as a role player for any contender...I think he'd be an ideal fit in Indiana...
I expect Brian Grant to join the Heat again. I remember a writer mentioning the money they save waiving Grant, basically pays for Phil Jackson's contract.
It was the obvious thing to do really. One thing I am confused about is Phil Jackson. He seemed enthusiastic and like he wanted to use Grant this season. His plans may have been overruled by the huge contract or it was the media doing what they do best: making rumours. Any takers on a bet that Kobe gets blamed for this?
Phil Jackson also had big plans for Caron Butler. The money was just too large for what the Lakers were (or weren't depending on how you look at it) receiving in return. He'd be a great fit in indiana, and I'm sure Jermaine O'Neal would welcome an old teammate back. He could also go to Detroit so they would have another 6 fouls to throw at shaq. Either way this is a good move for the Lakers. And as for Kobe getting blamed for this....I'm surprised no one blamed him for Global warming yet. He is on fire most of the time lol

IT'S ABOUT FREAKING TIME!!!!!!!!!</div> Amen, I'm sure this must be a popular move out in Lake Town. I just can't understand what took them so long to unload, perhaps his massive contract? Declining numbers? Massively and constantly decreasing trade value? Who can say? Still, it looks like he'll be a popular option in free agency.
