Friday was supposed to be about new beginnings for the Los Angeles Lakers as the first official practice of the 2011-12 season coincided with new coach Mike Brown's first official day in charge of his troops.

Instead, the team was left to pick up the pieces after a three-team trade that would have brought in Chris Paul and shipped Pau Gasol and Lamar Odom out of town went awry Thursday because NBA commissioner David Stern intervened.

Odom reported to the Lakers practice facility Friday over 90 minutes late for the first day of training camp, met briefly with Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak and then left.

The Lakers forward did not participate in practice. It is unclear if any resolution was met or if Odom will return to the team and practice on Saturday, according to Lakers vice president of public relations John Black.
