Lane Kiffin was asked to resign by Al Davis after going 4-12. Al Davis promised Lane Kiffin control of personnel, but when he wanted to fire Rob Ryan, Al Davis disagreed. So what are your thoughts on the topic. I think Al Davis will wait till after the Senior Bowl to make a move if he is going to.
I never understood the signing in the first place, but I'm not surprised at all by this request. I wonder who's going to be the next poor sap to take this job?
I have been a Raider fan for a hell of a long time. I gotta admit, for the first time since 1963, I don't know what the hell is going on.
I was going to make a topic about this, but then the Raiders came out and said this is a false report. http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news;_ylt=Aqci...p&type=lgns
Al Davis asks someone to resign? Is Al getting soft? I guess Lane is not as easy to manipulate as Al thought. Rumor was he wanted Denny 'the nutty professor' Green as the coach because DG is what we thought he was.
Davis needs to go if they get rid of him. Probably needs to go regardless. But he can't keep doing this (if it's true) Plus, Kiffin has em in the right direction.
Kiffin coached in the Senior Bowl along with the Raiders staff. Of all the coaches on the sideline, Kiffin was the only one NOT wearing a Raider logo. He's going to make Al fire him and pay him off. Close the book on Kiffin. No way on Earth will he coach the Raiders again. Yes, he had turned the corner with this team but he wasn't turning the Raiders into what AL wanted him to. I think the insanity will unfortunately continue in Oakland. Al Davis will never step down. So what if Denny Green does something Al don't like ? Or Billick, or even Ryan should Al go that way? Gonna be another long year.

Nolan is still employed but not wearing his team logo when coaching a different team. Is ESPN creating a mountain out of a molehill? It must wear them down talking about the Patriots so much. <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Lofton to interview Monday By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer Friday, January 25th, 2008 at 3:44 pm James Lofton will interview with the Raiders for the third time in three years Monday. According to senior executive John Herrera, Lofton will interview as a position coach with head coach Lane Kiffin. The same Kiffin who reportedly is locked in a "fire/resign" battle of wills with owner Al Davis. Herrera insists the Kiffin-Davis feud isn't the juicy story ESPN's Chris Mortensen made it out to be. "It's not an issue. Lane's the coach. It's not an issue," Herrera said. "I think the one accurate thing he said is that James Lofton will be interviewed. He will be _ as a position coach _ and he will do it with Lane on Monday because that's when he gets back from Mobile and the Senior Bowl." Herrera also refuted the notion that Kiffin has been stripped of all personnel authority and control of his staff, conceding only that Davis was "irritated" when rumors of Kiffin's interest in Arkansas surfaced four games before the end of the season. "But that's ancient history and this is now," Herrera said. "There has never been any question about Lane being the coach. It hasn't been an issue." Herrera also said Dennis Green has not been contacted by the club, noting that Green already said he hasn't been contacted and that his name is always connected to the Raiders. Lofton was fired this week as wide receivers coach of the San Diego Chargers. He interviewed for the head coaching positons that went to Art Shell and Norv Turner. Kiffin has done nothing to refute the reports, saying, "I'm not going to comment on anything that's transpired in the last three weeks." That three-week time frame coincides with the Raiders issuing a release saying Rob Ryan was still the defensive coordinator.</div>
As I had suspected, this was a load of horsecrap. The story was originally broke by a Bay Area "journalist" prior to the Superbowl, who was looking to create a headline in the sports section of the newspaper. Understand, that there are journalists who hate the Raiders owner Al Davis, and have absolutely no shame when it comes to creating and propagating rumors. Then, ESPN's Chris Mortensen got a hold of it, and made the "declaration" on ESPN. This is the same Chris Mortensen, who gets second hand information, and always declares that the Seattle Seahawks will win the Superbowl. Now, these same journalists who print garbage like this will NEVER talk about what the Raiders are doing if it involves anything positive, such as the recent hiring of Hall of Famer James Lofton to the coaching staff. It's just not *shocking* enough to print those stories.

Remember how Eli was going to be out of the NFL for at least a month with his shoulder trouble? Heh.
Al doesn't speak to the media very often. Reporters are often complaining that they are never sure what the Raiders are going to do in a given situation because they keep things very close to the vest. You might see him do a press conference after he hires a new coach, and then not for a long time (at least until the next season ). Call it being ultra competitive, call it being ultra paranoid. That is just the way things work in Raider HQ. Compare that to Robert Kraft, for example. Kraft seems to always be in front of a camera or microphone, commenting on various things. Because some journalists out there know that Al will not take the bait that they set for him, they will continue run their mouths irresponsibly and unchecked, drawing whatever conclusions that they can fit into a sports column. It's almost like they are so frustrated by the Raiders' secrecy, that they are taunting them to give them the least little reaction. Does he really *need* to address these rumors? Why shouldn't he be allowed to simply brush them aside just as he's done all along, every year? The players and coaches know where he stands, and he fully expects for any *real* issues to be dealt with in-house, not out on the public airwaves.
