I don't post often but I read daily.

I know all of you are hysterical and feel the need to let everyone know just how clever you are (i.e. oh I get it, it's an IRONIC obama image, now let me laugh and laugh and laugh...) through an oversized photo in your signature but would it be too much to ask to knock it off? It makes browsing the forum a bigger pain in the ass than the clowns who spend all day bitching about who is or isn't bringing on the apocalypse (hint: it's probably Glen Beck).

Anyway, Go Blazers and anyone with a giant image in the signature... well, it's like a giant badge that says your an ass... but it also tells me not to waste time talking to you, so maybe it's good to allow it.

You can turn off signatures somehow. I'm not sure, but I know you can.

    Really?

I mean, I hate to make a universal move like that... some signatures are really nice and I like the IDEA of signatures, just not when it's completely obnoxious.

It says right there in the signature page that images can be 500x100 max... or 9.8kb, whichever is smaller.

    Shooter's Obama image is 350x433 and 37kb.

You can use the Firefox plug-in AdBlock to block obnoxiously large signature pictures.

Or you can do your job as a producer and uphold the rules of this forum. Hoojacks just laid it out for you. Do something about it.

I appreciate your looking up to me as the ultimate authority but I don't believe it is within my power to change people's signatures. It seems like something you should take up with an admin, if it bothers you.

You know what they say: posters use big signature pictures to compensate for . . .

There actually are no signature size rules that I know of.

    Maybe.

I actually find it amusing when people are assholes on message boards for no reason. I think that it's partly because people are afraid to use their real names and they create an online identity that's detached from reality.

I also find it a bit puzzling that people go out of their way to take shots at moderators who volunteer their time to try to help things work more smoothly.

But, as boring as many of my blogs are, I think I'll probably skip it. The answer is probably just that some people are assholes.

Ed, you honestly have no sense of humor at all. (that's the first serious thing I've said) I'm just having fun, but if you take it as me being an asshole, then I guess I'll have to live with it.

I was making a joke, I didn't even know you actually blogged... wow

Wasn't aware we could call people assholes either...

I wasn't calling anyone here an asshole. I am commenting that some people are less civil over the Web and in online communities than they would be in real life, and that moderators are often lodestones for poor manners.

Is it the medium? Maybe. Tone of voice is all but absent and smiles and formatting can only go so far.

I think, though, that it's probably just that some people are assholes generally and don't understand that asking nicely for things is usually more effective than demanding it.

I certainly didn't intend to call you an asshole, but I DID think that you were talking about my blog, since I'd just posted a link to it in the last three days on this board. :)

Whether I have a sense of humor or not is another topic entirely.

    Ed O.
