Does anyone have any news on this guy? Are the Lakers going to resign him? Is he invited to camp? I am a big fan of what he did last season off the bench, and he would be a great addition to go along with guys like Luke, Evans, and Cook
I don't think he's ready yet, and I don't think he'll be 100% by the time the season starts. I would guess that he rehabs with the team and the Lakers go with a full roster of 15 players. If a roster spot opens up mid-season, it could be for a then healthy Profit.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Flashback:</div><div class="quote_post">Do we even have room for him anymore?</div> No, we already have 15 players signed. We dont have any room for Von Wafer, JR Pinnock, or Laron Profit. In order for one player to make the roster, someone has to either be waived or traded away in a 2 for 1 deal. Some players that come to mind are Aaron Mckie and Brian Cook, who's role should be reduced with the signing of Vladman.

The Lakers have a lot of players as it is, are they going to have to cut some? And in addition, what's up with Laron Profit? Well the injury that Profit has (ruptured Achilles) takes about a year and a half to heal. There was a recent article (I forget the source off the top of my head) that mentioned a few teams looking to sign him. I don't think he's ready yet, and I don't think he'll be 100% by the time the season starts. I know Profit has been practicing with the team, but right not he's one of the odd men out for the Lakers. I think Pinnock will play overseas, but the Lakers will retain his rights. There's still the possibility the Lakers make a trade before the season starts. Cook, Mihm, McKie are the likely canidates, but it's been quiet in Lakerland as far as the rumor mill is concerned. I hope the team finds room for Profit if he does fully recover, but if you were a fan of Profit you guys should enjoy watching Mo Evans rock the P&G this season.

Even the Pistons fans were angry for giving him up because he brings a decent game off the bench.

But to have both Evans and a healthy Profit will make our bench that much stronger

I really liked Laron Profit coming off the bench. I hope he can come back and play backup PG for Kobe Bryant. He's starting to develop as a player and Im sure Kobe's teaching him some tricks here and there. Why not a Kobe duplicate? lol

If anything, he will come in and backup Kobe Bryant. Also, Laron isn't exactly a youngster. He is 29, I believe, and will be a good veteran presence on the floor. I don't really see him developing anymore. I think what we saw last season is all we will get. Not that I'm complaining
I'd like to see him back, but it's going to be difficult. Our roster is full, and unless we make a trade, it doesn't look like anything will open up. I'm still hoping that, if we don't trade McKie, we waive him and use that spot for Profit or Pinnock.
Harrington is on the market. We should amke a sign and trade for him. Mihm, McKie, Smush and a second round pick for Harrington. I don't mind seeing Odom at the 1. Odom Kobe Radman Harrington Kwame

And while you may be ok with Odom running the point, I'm not sure who else would be. I'm not. He may be tall and long, but he's not quick enough to guard the point. Also, ATL has said that they don't want players or picks. They're trying to get salary for him. Essentially, unless we have a large trade exception, which we don't, we won't land him.
Waive Profit. We don't need him. He's not going to be a suitable replacement for Kobe if anything happens or when Kobe is sitting on the bench for about 5 minutes of the game. When Kobe sits out, we should go big and rely on defence with Mihm, Kwame, Turaif, Odom and Smush.

Harrington isn't a great big man, he's very much a tweener. We need a banger, Harrington plays a quicker game. Plus, we really don't have a back-up center (I don't trust Bynum with big minutes yet). Also, like Moo said, Odom would get beat by most point guards, I assume worse than Smush- now that's saying something... <div class="quote_poster">Quoting Laker_fan:</div><div class="quote_post">Waive Profit. And Laron Profit serves a decent purpose. He's got the ability to play the 2 or the 3, therefore he could also backup Odom. So, I wouldn't mind bringing him back for that reason. He gives us extra depth at the 2/3, and that's never a bad thing.
I want no part of Al Harrington on the Laker team. He simply doesn't fit the Triangle system, and wants too, much money for what he can do. For starters Harrington needs the ball in his hands to be productive. He doesn't move well without the basketball and can't shoot. A better alternative would be going after Jumaine Jones who remains unsigned by the Bobcats. We could send them Aaron McKie and Von Wafer? Devin Green? 2nd Round Pick? in a sign and trade. The Bobcats still need to spend $9Million to have the minimum salary amount. Adding McKie's $2.5M gives them an expiring contract and a veteran they can possibly move later on in the season. The Bobcats really don't have a need for Jones anymore. They drafted Adam Morrison and resigned Alan Anderson. Those two along with Gerald Wallace will take up most of the SG/SF minutes.
