Sort of an opinion... do you guys see Larry Brown in the Pistons future? They haven't been playing that well lately and I've been thinking... every team Larry has coached has been awful and then he made them good. But the Pistons were already a good team when he got to them. Do you guys think now that maybe Larry is regreting going to the Pistons. I just don't mean because they've been playing bad but I mean in general. I heard he had some harsh words after their loss to the Cavs. And do you see Larry in the future? As for me, I don't really think Larry will be back for another season.

He's in an adjusting period. He isn't accustomed to having to work with good players, players who already are winners. When he gets used to the guys and how to run offense with them I think he'll really like it in Detroit. He has cooperative, hard-working players and that is exactly what he wants.
I think a big incentive for Brown coming over was Tayshaun Prince, since Prince really came alive against Brown in last year's playoffs. Others were installing a workable offense using Chauncey(who he really likes at the point) and Rip, and also using Ben Wallace as a real tool down low. So I think he'll stay around long enough to see how his implementations work, and to see how much he can develope Prince and perhaps Darko. Gone in a year? I think at least 3 is more likely.
Larry Brown will be around for quite a while. A coaching resume as long and distinguished as his earns you a two season grace period. Certainly, a December lull by the Pistons is not enough to call his future with Detroit into speculation.

Larry Brown will be here for a few more years. The problems that we are having right now are not unexpected. Every journalist predicted we would struggle until the All-Star Break when we should become used to Larry's system. A difference is that when gave his system to other teams, they were already bad, so nobody noticed that they were sucking. A lot of Piston fans expected this season to be a step down from the last few years, a mini-rebuild of sorts. I guess they just didn't realize how big of a slump it would be. It has not been just these past 10 games, before that we were hardly getting wins playing against other horrible teams. However, one thing that we have realized is that our bench is horrible. There is no reason at all that a certain rookie does not deserve to play in front of damn Zelly! We'll see if Brown is a mistake soon. If we do not rebound after the All-Star Break, he will seriously have to make some changes.

Detroit is in a very unique situation. I cannot remember any team that was a playoff contending team that had the opportunity to draft such a highly touted prospect(prospect, not a finished product like Duncan to San Antonio). This bodes well for Detroit. They don't have to rush Milicic into anything. Since they are playing to win, that means giving guys playing time on how well they play. Zelly is more reliable, since he has experience. Milicic is very raw and young. As a result, Zelly is getting the PT.

I wouldn't call playing the #2 pick, rushing him into anything. He wants to play, and he has shown that he is getting better in the last few times we have seen him play. You said that since we are playing to win, that means giving guys playing time on how well they play. Well, looks at Zelly's stat line from tonight. http://www.nba.com/games/20031227/DETATL/boxscore.html That is not performing at the highest level. He only took one shot, but he could have taken more. Sure, some stats don't show up, but he did not play well on the defensive end either. The excuse that Darko should not play because it will break his confidence does not work. I think we could see how much confidence he had before he scored his first points, rotting on the bench. A player needs to learn the game not only during practice but during game time. Begin to mold him into a great player now, instead of letting the raw talent rot on the bench. Even if you don't like the idea of giving him a consistent 10 minutes a game, put him in during the 2nd or 3rd quarter, see how he does and go from there. The worst thing for a bench player is not being able to go and play when their team is losing and when they think that they could make a difference.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting PyroManiac:</div><div class="quote_post">I don't understand what you mean by reliable? Also, in close games, who is more likely to get a questionable call? A rookie? Or a veteran? Again, these are things Detroit has to deal with. They are trying to get HCA, which supercedes developing Darko. <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post"> I wouldn't call playing the #2 pick, rushing him into anything. Again, since Detroit is in competition for HCA, they need to minimize mistakes, and keep winning. And to do that, Detroit needs to play their players that give them the best chance to win NOW. And Zelly gives them a better chance NOW than Milicic does. No one is arguing that Darko isn't going to be better in the long run. But its all about the present time, and as of this moment, Zelly is more capable for solid minutes than the inexperienced Darko. <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post"> You said that since we are playing to win, that means giving guys playing time on how well they play. Meaning, no mistakes. Zelly will make less mistakes than Darko given the fact that Zelly is experienced and Darko is an 18 year old rookie. <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post"> The excuse that Darko should not play because it will break his confidence does not work. Needs PT to develop, but cannot give him PT until he is ready. Brown obviously doesn't think Darko gives them the best chance to win now. If he did, Darko would be playing. I tend to trust the knowledge of Larry Brown over you and I.
Yes, mistakes. The main problem that haunts every rookie. However, you learn from your mistakes. I have trust in Larry Brown also, but in the end can playing Darko for a 5 minutes a game, destroy our chances? I understand if we are facing the Lakers, Kings, or another elite team, but if we face the Hawks or Heat. Recently, Dumars said that Darko will probably be in the rotation by the end of the year, because he is developing very quickly. I wish that the moment would come sooner than later. I think everybody wants to see him play.
