"When last seen around these parts, the Predators were giving the Blackhawks fits during the first round of last season's playoffs.

The Preds returned Wednesday night to the United Center to take on the Hawks and proved as pesky as ever with their stifling defensive-minded style. It worked to perfection — aided by an ill-timed penalty on Hawks defenseman Nick Boynton — to skate out of town with a 3-2 come-from-behind victory.

With Boynton in the box for a delay-of-game penalty after lifting the puck into the crowd of 20,680, Nashville's Joel Ward scored with 27 seconds remaining to cap a two-goal, third-period rally that handed the Hawks their third defeat in four games this season.

"I had the puck and just as I went to shoot it I think it rolled," Boynton said. "I thought it was flat on my stick and I guess I scooped it. It happens, unfortunately.

"You can't let any team in this league hang around. When you let it go down to the final two minutes anything can happen. They're a good team and play good systems and they obviously took advantage of my mistake."

The Hawks got a goal and assist from Jonathan Toews and a power-play score from Patrick Kane but it wasn't enough to help Corey Crawford earn the victory in net. The Predators got a strong effort from goalie Anders Lindback, who was making his first NHL start."
