Yeah I also don't like Marbury as a selection for Team USA. He's a great individual player, but he has not had success as a team player in the league. Kidd was the ideal choice, I think they should have taken a look at Baron Davis or Sam Cassell.
Cassell will get the nod to go to the Olympics if Bibby decides he doesn't want to go. I think Cassell deserves it in the first place over Bibby, but that is just me.
Damn. I'm dissapointed at Artest not being selected but the ones that did are just as deserving as he is (with the exception of Marbury, I could pick 2 PG's over him any day). I like Marion's selection, he is one of the most underrated players in the NBA IMO. Does anyone else notice that the players chosen/asked to go are from non-playoff teams? Maybe Team USA is trying to avoid getting rejected by playoff players.
Well it only makes sense that the players in the playoffs would skip the Olympics. The playoffs run into the summer, and most players would rather choose vacationing/relaxing or preparing for the upcoming season. Keep in mind many of the players on the roster last year suffered injuries throughout the season. Ex: Ray Allen, Allen Iverson, Nick Collison, Elton Brand, Jason Kidd, and Tim Duncan. I'm not saying the Olympics were the cause of their injuries, but it's something to think about.
^I'm really just wondering where the Patriotism is? Before players used to jump at the chance to play for their country but now everyone wants to just avoid being injured and vacation. I still think Team USA is favoured to win this Olympics but with a lot of star players defecting their chances have slimmed tremendously.
^ I agree...Olympic basketball is a joke now in the U.S....I've always felt that the Olympics are for ametuers anyway...get them college kids back in there....
^You do that and they will definitely lose. There is no way I would choose any American amateur team to win against Yugoslavia, Argentina or even France for that matter. USA is all about winning gold so I don't think that would happen, but I'm not saying it shouldn't happen. Get those who actually want to represent their country out there.
