LeBron - the "anti-Clutch" Some people earlier in the season labeled LeBron "anti-Clutch", something I thought was preposterous even at the time. Basically, people were focusing in on LeBron's poor conversion rate on potential game winners at the end of games and his willingness to pass to teammates in crucial parts of the game, ignoring his insanely high fg% at the end of close games that he's maintained pretty much all season. Elias points out that the following, which I think is amazing and should absolutely erase any notion that LeBron is not a clutch player: <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post"> James sunk both of his field-goal attempts in the last two minutes of the fourth quarter -- the second one putting the Cavaliers ahead to stay. James is now shooting 70 percent from the floor, on 16 field goals in 23 attempts, in the last two minutes of either the fourth quarter or an overtime period, with the score within a three-point margin (in other words, a "one-possession game"). To put that 70-percent figure into context, consider that this season, none of the 29 other NBA players with 20-or-more field goal attempts in such situations has connected on even half of them. </div>
"clutch" is an entirely ridiculous classification in the NBA. Everyone says Kobe's clutch and yet he's missed as many game winners as he's made. James is as clutch as any player in the league not named Robert Horry. In my mind Big Shot Bob is the only player since Jordan that truly deserves the clutch title. But if you're going to call Kobe clutch....then Lebron deserves the title as well. Perhaps more.
i'm surprised there havent been more posts on this issue. Put a similiar post in the Laker forum glowing about Kobe's "clutchness" and you'd have 25 posts by now.
thats because the ppl on this site are primarily laker fans but w/e Lebron is clutch look at the Miami game.
It's pretty funny, because just because he's the superstar, everybody expects him to take every single late shot and make it. When he passes, everyone thinks he's scared. When he misses, he choked. Not every superstar is going to hit a lot of game winners ala Jordan, Melo, Horry etc.
People see LeBron's game and they want so badly for there to be a weakness (other than D) and they start nitpicking. There were games early in the year when he wasn't taking the last shot (which is fine) but he was making the wrong decision. This just in, that's not happening anymore. He's making every right decision, and knocking down his free throws. But most people will only judge what they see in nationally televised games. When LeBron had that monster game against Wade, people thought he just started to play like that. When in reality, he was lights out in the 4th quarter for about a whole week previous. LeBron is special because of his court vision, not his jump shot. He'll make as many game winning assists as others will make game winning shots (but he'll throw a few of those in as well)
