http://www.usatoday.com/story/opinion/2013/03/29/leno-fallon-tonight-show-column/2025457/ He's #1 in the late night ratings.
He's horrible. I watched him for a long time because he would have the best guests, but his questions are terrible. Complete fluff. In fact, most of the talk shows in the US are bad. I used to watch Conan but I kinda outgrew his style of comedy. It was hilarious when I was a teenager, but now it's pretty boring. Still, Conan is miles ahead of Leno. 10x more intelligent. I like what Ellen does. I never watch her show, but I think it's awesome that she helps people with her power. There's a video on youtube from a few years ago where she had a deaf girl on that had recently gained hearing in one of her ears. The implant cost something like 50k and her mother in law used some of her retirement to pay for the surgery. Pretty amazing stuff. Ellen arranged for the woman to get a second implant free of charge, and reimbursed the mother in law the 50k. You never see Leno or Conan doing shit like that. But if you're looking for pure entertainment, I was watching the Graham Norton show from over in England that was pretty funny. I like how they have the three guests out at the same time and they're all cracking jokes. Just seemed like a lot more substance than the hit-and-run appearances that stars make on Leno or Conan. Come out, promote your shit, and then leave. Skip to the actual interview.
I was never really a Leno fan, so whatever. I felt he was lefties' main source of news for a decade. The irony is he's likely to end up on Fox.
I think the reason why he's so popular is because he's stable. He's there. It's the same show every night. You can put his show on and not have to think about anything. It's consistency at its core. Without looking at any numbers I would guess that his demographic is mostly older people who have watched The Tonight Show for decades. With that said, I can't stand Jimmy Fallon and I would actually prefer Leno to him.
I agree that Leno kind of sucks, but Nate, you should know that Leno actually donates a lot, not just money, but he donates a lot of time to all sorts of fundraisers. but I can't stand his show.
Really? You felt that way? No one on the left that I know likes him, or considers him a source of anything other than dated jokes and bad hair.
Agreed. I've never heard anyone say they use him as any source of news, nice try Denny. Jon Stewart maybe? You mixing the two up? As for his wildly popular ratings, most I know in the 18-49 year old demographic watch their TV "off schedule". Not tuning in at 10, 10:30 whenever talk shows are on. I know people still seem to value those ratings representing who is watching, but it's rather inaccurate, IMO.
Seriously?? You're going back to before he was on the Tonight show and was just a comedian? The left didn't consider him the source of anything back then. You should be careful, you might hurt yourself with a stretch like that.
He wasn't on the Tonight Show for more than what, 6 months during Bush's presidency. Not sure he was even considered anything special to lefties.
Jay Leno used to dress like Elvis in his '68 Comeback Special and was a hilarious stand up comic. He used to appear on Letterman's show all the time. Much more edgy than his Late Night host version.
He used to be funny, no doubt. But he sold out (don't blame him) and geared his humor towards an older, aging population. I would've done the same if i was in his shoes. the same is true of Dennis Miller, Dennis Leary and others. David Letterman (who if anyone, is one that the "left gets their news from") had the benefit of having a mostly younger and college aged audience, so he was by default, forced to keep his humor a little cornier/edgier and dorkier.
