The Spurs’ immediate offseason attention will center on the plans of franchise cornerstone Tim Duncan, who has a player option to return for an 18th NBA season and defend his fifth championship.

Not far behind will be the long-term future of budding young star Kawhi Leonard. The recently-crowned Finals MVP will have a three-month window, starting on July 1, to sign an extension with the Spurs.

If not, he’ll become a restricted free agent next summer, at which point the Spurs will be able to match any offer he receives — which, based on what he’s done thus far, promises to be substantial.

But as Leonard told USA Today during the Spurs’ championship celebration, he doesn’t expect to be playing anywhere else for the foreseeable future.

“I’m just playing. The Spurs are a great organization. I’m leaving that to my agent, and I’m sure they’ll come out with a great understanding and a deal. I’m not focused on that at all.”
