This years LSI is going to be great. It features the top 2 players in the country in Ben Simmons out of Florida and Jaylen Brown out of Georgia. Both of their teams are ranked in the top 10 nationaly and will probably be top 5 picks in 2 years. They played last weekend and Brown's team beat Simmons team in an upset. They will probably meet up in the championship. If you haven't seen clips of these guys they are both legit with great handles. Simmons is 6'8" but can play all 5 positions. He starts as the PF but runs a lot of the offense as a PG. Jaylen is a high flyer and is odds on favorite to win the fun contest. He's a scoring wing who takes it to the hole. Rainer Beach won the tournament last year and is trying to become the first team to win it back to back. This is the same school that produced Jamal Crawford and Nate Robinson. They have a kid they call baby face who is the spitting image of Crawford, he is headed to UW. They play a not stop Don Nelson style offense that not a lot of tea can keep up with. From Portland 2 time reigning 6A State Champ West Linn will count on the top PG on the West coast in Payton Prichard. He's just a junior but was the player of the year last year and plays with the junior national teams. Jesuit is a power again in the state and along with Central Catholic should represent Oregon well. I'm going to be broadcasting it live if you can't make it out there. First game is tonight and it will be Jaylen Brown and the Wheeler Wildcats against host school Liberty. I will post highlights throughout tonight's game and the tournament on both my personal Twitter and the show's acct., give me a follow @pjmiller16 @pdxsportsbeat PortlandSportsBeat.com
Whoa...this is the best field that I have ever seen out here at this tournament. Ben Simmons is legit! Best player coming out of HS since Lebron. 6'8" with great handles and court vision. Like Lebron he will need to work on his jumper. He is just so athletic it's rediculous. check out this dunk. Here is a highlight mix from his game last night. Central Catholic almost beat them. A free throw with .9 to win for the #1 team in the country. http://youtu.be/-qrKPOmA9lY West Linn beat the number 10 team in the county who features the #2 prospect Jaylen Brown. http://youtu.be/0li9g_1upAg I think West Linn has a real shot at beating Montverde Academy. They shoot better from the outside then CC who missed some open looks.
Just looking at the size/athleticism, CC didn't look like they belonged on the same floor as Montverde. I really don't understand how they weren't scoring nearly every time down the floor. Did Montverde pull their top players for an extended period of time?
