Have two early-season victories so intoxicated the Hawks that they can afford to mail one in?

That was the case Sunday afternoon, when the Hawks checked their effort and emotion at the door of Philips Arena. The result was a lifeless 101-90 loss to Washington, which entered the game winless in five tries.

"You've got a team that was hungry for a win and they came in here and played like they wanted to win," Hawks coach Mike Woodson said. "And we didn't."

The Wizards came away with a stream of loose balls, seemed to grab every free rebound and took more smart shots. The result was a one-sided loss.

"I thought we were just too lethargic," Woodson said. "It seemed like we were a step behind everything."

Agreed, forward Josh Smith said: "We got outplayed. They match up well with us, but we had no energy and when the energy was there we couldn't limit them to one shot."

Woodson was in no mood to make excuses, either. Sure, the Hawks (2-4) have played six games in 10 days, but that's no reason to audition for a Sleep Number Bed advertisement.

"Certainly under the circumstances we could have some tired legs out there," Woodson said. "But everybody has a tough schedule, not just the Hawks."
