Interesting, but on a team that just gave a bunch of cash to Brook Lopez and has a dearth of young players (and no picks until about 2019), do you think that the 30M or so they'd save in this trade = giving up RHJ and losing a starter?

Teams probably won't want to do salary dump trades like that now.

But get two months into the season and some team with positive expectations finding themselves at the bottom of the standings will.

If we can't find good value for cap space now just hold onto it for the season.

Intriguing. We have no scoring now from our front line, so a 1-year rental would give Olshey time to fix it. And make it easier for Lillard to get his shot off.

Then leave him out of it. Our roster is still improved.

We have no shooter in the front line. The conventional place is the SF. I hope Olshey gets someone cheap, but if not, Joe Johnson could do it. Maybe Stotts can make him more efficient.

First of all we dont have Joe Johnson, so trading him is out of the question.

Secondly why would you trade for someone like him with this roster. Basicallytrying to prolong rebuilding for what?

You know what I mean. Let's trade someone for Joe Johnson. I know Blazers are trying to rebuild. They are young and untried. Vet like Johnson can provide experience and lessen lillard's burden on offensive end. To me, winning mentality is most important factor for young players' growth and improvement. With Johnson, we can win several more games. So, Why not?

Trading for and old fart might make sense if we got LMA and had a shot at deep playoffs, but without LMA all trading for JJ does is jettison our youth and maybe eek us into the 8th spot. I'd rather take a carrot peeler to my Johnson than trade for Joe Johnson at this point.

There is a good chance that Joe Johnson may also get bought out.

Are you just simply reporting the rumor ? or implying that Joe would take a buy out and then sign with Portland? Because players usually only take a buy out so they can go to a contender.

Hell just trade Kaman for him, contingent upon making a playoff run. Would be a good backup 2/3 with Crabbe and he's another ball handler which we need. His contract expires after this year. Then later in the season we could trade Meyers, Henderson, and a pick for Ryan Anderson? Damn what a bench that would be.

Trading for Johnson would only ensure a return to the cycle ( trading for vets who don't bring enough for our team to win titles, while shipping off young talent that could help us build a dynasty.) That has cursed us to mediocricty. We need to be patient and stay the course, and go after players on the upswing with life still in them, not old knees and high mileage.
