"Nobody is a re-sign at all costs, but we want him back and we feel good about negotiating something with him. But nobody is a re-sign at any cost." just found that interesting... http://espn.go.com/new-york/mlb/story/_/id/9660883/new-york-yankees-president-randy-levine-robinson-cano-re-sign-all-costs
They're saying what many of us have said. Enough with the ridiculously long huge money contracts. For example if the Dodgers throw eight years at Cano for huge money it's not something they want to involve themselves with. I really don't blame them on players the other side of thirty where you get killed in the final years of a deal like that.
Noted in the last paragraph that Levine said that the Yankees will continue to put a championship team on the field. They better do better than the Hafners, Wells, Youks and the like.
Personally, I don't think they can do both... Both put a championship team on the field as well as lower costs (with the signings of retreads) it has to be one or the other...
Absolutely spot on. A productive minor league system is essential to remaining competitive if you are planning to spend less, and the Yankees don't have that.
In the early to mid nineties I worked for a cable TV company in Orlando. A friend of mine (Astros Fan) had some pretty good baseball connections and I saw quite a few spring training games at the Stros Kissimme Facility. Always great seats away from the ham & eggers as my man used to put it. It was really cool seeing those Yankee teams with home growns and players acquired through intelligent trades and free agent moves. Saw some great Stros players as well.
