Levy “surprised” by t.o. Acquistion

Three years ago, Marv Levy was the General Manager of the Bills. And, under his leadership, the Bills made no attempt to acquire receiver Terrell Owens, who ultimately signed with the Cowboys.

With Levy gone, the Bills made a successful move to acquire Owens.

“I was surprised, naturally, like everybody else,” Levy, who coached the Bills to four straight Super Bowl appearances, told the Associated Press. “I verified it a little bit later that it was true, and that my friend hadn’t been drinking.”

But Levy wouldn’t comment on whether he believes the move will prove to be a good one for the Bills.

“Everybody knows about him,” Levy said. “I remain an avid Bills fan and supporter. I hope it works out.”

Hall of Fame tailback Thurman Thomas was far more positive.

“Wow,” Thomas said (proving that he could write for us, if so inclined). “I said it at the end of last year that the Bills have to make a big splash. This is a bigger splash than I thought the Bills organization would ever make.”

And Thomas thinks that the gamble will work.

“I think it’s a great move,” Thomas said. “I always said they needed more playmakers out there, and he’s definitely one. . . .

“He can be a headache sometimes, but I just think that comes with him being competitive. Nobody’s ever questioned his work ethic. And I tell you what, he definitely will be motivated because I think he knows this might be his last go-around at it.”
