<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">With the Magic being key players in this month's free-agent sweepstakes, their imminent acquisition of coveted small forward Rashard Lewis has been all the buzz of the summer league. Lewis' agent, Tony Dutt, was at the camp Monday, finalizing the negotiations with the Magic. Lewis is expected in town Wednesday, the first day that free agents can sign contracts, to ink a six-year megadeal with the Magic. Orlando has agreed to a sign-and-trade deal with the Seattle SuperSonics that will allow Lewis to make $126.4 million over the next six seasons, according to NBA sources who requested anonymity. The Magic will send back a second-round pick to the Sonics. With the 2007-08 salary cap set Tuesday night at $56.63 million, Lewis' first-year salary with the Magic will be $16.68 million -- the maximum allowable for a player with nine years of NBA experience. From there, he'll get 10.5 percent annual raises. That will take the deal to a mind-boggling $25.2 million for the 2012-13 season.</div> Source: ESPN Damn 25.2 mil... overpaid
So it's just a 2nd round pick for Shard? After all of that? Well at least we don't have to renounce our rights on Darko and still maintain his bird rights.

We're talking about Shard Lewis here, not Kobe, Jordan, or Magic. How stupid can you be, handing him such a large contract. 126 mil!? Is this guy even an All Star?
Ouch! That's a ridiculous contract for Rashard Lewis. He is a good player, but definatley not worth that much. Bad move by the Magic.
<div class="quote_poster">Casual Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">This reminds me of Allan Houston's old contract.</div> But worse. The only thing that could possibly happen to make this worst is if he injures his ankle during the preseason.
"in exchange for a future conditional second round draft pick" How does that work at all? Doesn't the CBA say the salaries have to be comparable?
<div class="quote_poster">odde23 Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">"in exchange for a future conditional second round draft pick" How does that work at all? THis is from another site I check out. <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Here's the scoop on trade exceptions: Traded Player Exception: If a team trades away players with a higher combined salary than those they acquire in return (we'll call this initial deal "Trade #1"), they receive what is called a Traded Player Exception, also known colloquially as a "Trade Exception". Teams with a trade exception have up to a year in which they can acquire more salary in another trade (Trade #2) than they send away, as long as the gulf in salaries for Trade #2 is less than or equal to the difference in salaries for Trade #1. This circumvents the rule which normally does not allow teams over the salary cap to acquire net additional salary in trades. This exception is particularly useful when teams trade draft picks straight-up for players; since draft picks have no salary value, often the only way to get salaries to match is to use a trade exception, which allows trades to be made despite unbalanced salaries. So, you can see how it helps in this fashion: 1) If the Sonics wish to acquire a high first-round pick next year (for, oh, I don't know, OJ Mayo), they can use the trade exception to make it happen 2) If the Sonics are having difficulty trading Ridnour/Wilcox/Petro/etc., they just made whatever trade they are proposing one heckuva lot more lucrative to their dance partner(s). </div>
<div class="quote_poster">dotmotion Wrote</div><div class="quote_post"> Damn 25.2 mil... overpaid</div> Ya think?
Do you think that Sweet Lew is happy that he changed agents? Tony Dutt -- the greatest agent of all time. That contract is absolutely ridiculous.
Sonics apparently get a $9.3M trade exception along with the 2nd rounder. They should be able to make a solid trade with the amount of players still on rookie contracts.
<div class="quote_poster">Casual Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">Orlando was way under the cap, so the salaries didn't have to match.</div> See Jason Richardson for Brandan Wright.
