The Astros removed Matt Lindstrom from the closer's role Tuesday in an effort for the struggling reliever to re-establish himself in situations with less pressure, while making sure he's completely over his ailing back issue. Lindstrom was 0-3 with two blown saves in his previous four appearances entering Tuesday, allowing nine earned runs in 2 1/3 innings. Manager Brad Mills said Brandon Lyon, who has experience closing with Arizona, will take over as closer. "We want to put Lindy into a situation and build him up, and get him some good innings where we're able to put him in that role later on," Mills said. "The scenario is we want to put him in situations and have him have success. That's how it was approached. It wasn't like we were taking anything away from him or dictating it or anything like that." Lindstrom -- 2-4, 4.15 ERA with 22 saves in 28 chances -- handled the news with his usual professionalism.
