<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Lions GM Millen: 'I'll never quit'NFL.com wire reportsALLEN PARK, Mich. (Jan. 2, 2007) -- Detroit Lions general manager Matt Millen said that quitting is not an option he has considered despite criticism of the team's dismal performance in his tenure."I'll never quit," Millen said in an interview with a small group of reporters, including The Detroit News, which posted some of his comments on its web site. "I can't do that. I don't even consider that."It's the way I'm made."Asked why he wouldn't quit, Millen replied: "You're given a job, regardless of what it is. You keep on working and trying to get the thing done."Messages seeking comment on Millen's remarks were left with spokesmen for the Lions. Coach Rod Marinelli didn't have any definitive word on Millen's future at his news conference earlier in the day.About 100 Detroit fans held a protest during the second quarter of the last home game of the season Dec. 24 against the Chicago Bears. The fans left their seats midway through the quarter and gathered in Ford Field's atrium, where they chanted "Fire Millen" while watching the game on the scoreboard.Detroit is an NFL-worst 24-72 since Millen took control of football operations before the 2001 season. But with a victory over Dallas in Week 17, the Lions finished 3-13, costing them the top pick in the draft, which will go to Oakland.</div>http://www.nfl.com/teams/story/DET/9903578Lions fans should really begin looking for another team, because this is by far the most poorly run team in the NFL. It's amazing to me how incompetant GM's like Matt Millen and Isiah Thomas both still have jobs. Seriously, they each have deserved to be fired for quite some time now.<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Lions fire assistants Henderson, BeightolNFL.com wire reportsALLEN PARK, Mich. (Jan. 2, 2007) -- The Detroit Lions fired defensive coordinator Donnie Henderson and offensive line coach Larry Beightol, two days after finishing a 3-13 season.Lions coach Rod Marinelli announced the decisions at his final weekly press conference of the season."Donnie Henderson is very close to me, and it was a very difficult decision," Marinelli said. "It was more about systems than anything else. With coach Beightol, I just felt like we needed to make a change at this time."</div>http://www.nfl.com/teams/story/DET/9903163This move I feel was a mistake, I saw Donnie Henderson be able to coach when he was with the Jets and he was a fiery guy who helped turn our Defense Around into a very above-average one (Ranked 7th and 12th his two seasons here). Give him some talent and let him install his system and he would be the man in Detroit too.<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Lions hire Barry as defensive coordinator Click here to find out more!NFL.com wire reportsALLEN PARK, Mich. (Jan. 3, 2006) -- The Detroit Lions didn't have to look far for their new defensive coordinator. The team introduced coach Rod Marinelli's son-in-law, Joe Barry. Marinelli was quick to say the move had little to do with family ties."If we didn't get him, he'd be a defensive coordinator some other place," he said. "I hired the best guy to coach the defense."Barry, the former linebackers coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, takes over for Donnie Henderson, who was fired Jan. 2, two days after the team finished a 3-13 season. In six seasons with the Buccaneers, Barry was a member of a staff that won a Super Bowl in 2002. Tampa Bay linebackers were named to Pro Bowl rosters six times during his tenure."I've been preparing and dreaming about this opportunity for a long time," Barry said. "You have to believe in your head coach, and I wholeheartedly believe in coach Marinelli."Marinelli was Tampa Bay's defensive line coach for 10 seasons before taking the top job in Detroit before this season.</div>http://www.nfl.com/teams/story/DET/9905359See my comments on Henderson, nothing against the guy, but he's not going to do a better job.
