John Kitna is said to have brought a fresh new attitude to Detroit and it seems to be rubbing off on everyone. Kevin Jones is said to fit amazingly into the new offense and Calhoun's versitillity makes him the ideal counterpart to jones. im happy for both kitna and calhoun but gosh i sure hope these guys bomb out once again this year, maybe our neighborhood lions fan can shed some more light on how the lions new offense is looking.

The word is Kevin Jones is looking great catching the ball out of the backfield. He's apparently been working hard on that part of his game.

According to a Yahoo! Sports article the scuttlebutt in scouting circles is that the quarterback that has caught Mike Martz's eye this offseason isn't Jon Kitna or Josh McCown. Instead, Martz has been telling friends he's been very impressed with 2005 fifth-round pick Dan Orlovsky. Martz apparently believes that Orlovsky has the tools, intangibles and leadership to be successful ? but also thinks he can't be trusted to consistently make the right reads at this stage in his career. Kitna may enter 2006 as Detroit's starter, but keep an eye on Orlovsky as the future No. 1.

Sounds great to me! The Pistons, Red Wings and Tigers all had new head coaches this year and had very good seasons. Don't count Rod Marinelli out on doing the same. The Lions have MUCH more talant the the Harrington Lovers give them credit for. I think I'm going to win some money this year. [IMG]

You can count on it every year there is a new coach in a football town. An article about the "great new attitude" he has brought with him. Means nothing. It starts at top and flows down, and the top hasnt changed.

What happens @ OTA's in May is even less relevant than TC's in July. Bottom line; Its not how you start but how you finish.

Yet, every October, the Lions are doing their best Brando impersonation from "On the Waterfront"

Kind of like last year in training camp when all of the "experts" predicted Kevin Jones would have a 2000 yard season.

    Yeah...

Mariucci's back rotation and a pathictic QB (3 and out Joey) played a big part in KJ's poor season last year. Even you have to admit that Jones proved he has what it takes to be a great NFL back when he led the NFL in rushing over the final eight games of his rookie season. Add the proven talent to the Mike Martz style of offence and there's good reason to be optimistic.

Even with a putz like Nick Saban running the show in Miami the weak Dolphins went 9-7 in his first year. The playoffs are within reach for the 2006 Detroit Lions!

Let's have a little honesty, eh? [IMG]

I would definitely agree that Jones looked really good his rookie season. I do think that the Lions have been so bass ackwards the past few years that there is a lot of talent that goes to waste on that team. As much as I would hate to have the Lions to contend with, I wouldn't be surprised if some areas show marked improvement.

I do, however, think that the QB position is a huge question, and I think your WRs are unfortunately wasted talent at this point. Maybe Orlovsky will be the second coming of Brady, but those things rarely work out like coaches hope they will.

It has been a good year for Michigan sports - regardless of the upsets in hockey and soon to be basketball. It would be something special if the Lions were able to pull out a division win. I just wouldn't feel comfortable putting my money on them with Kitna at the reigns.

While I would like to totally agree with your statement, I don't think that Zachman actually believes any of the crap he directs at the Dolphins. He's just trying to get a rise out of the DWO. I am losing interest in his remarks because the truth is obvious. The Dolphins consistantly field much better teams than the Lions. Win-loss records don't lie. While I plan on ignoring his future remarks regarding the Dolphins, for the most part, I might throw him a bone every now and then because I truly feel very sorry for him. After suffering through the Wannstedt era, I can only imagine how much it must suck to have to face another year with Matt Millen in charge.

We have a jets fan sticking up for the Dolphins. Does this mean the world is going to end?

Dale hit the nail on the head. It took me about 3 posts to realize how repetitive Zack's posts are and so not worthy of a reply. I see no reason to respond other than to keep my skills as the literary sniper razor sharp. Unlike Dale, I don't think pity posts are the way to go.

Fact: Saban has won whereever he's gone even @ Michigan St. Can the same be said for Marinelli?

Not even with all the Ladders at every Home Depot and Lowe's in existence will the Lions "reach" the playoffs in '06.

No way Detroit gets even remotely close to the playoffs this year. Even Green Bay has a better team this year than Detroit does and you don't see me putting them anywhere near the playoff hunt.

Lions are dubbed a "contender" every off season by their local media and fans who have high hopes. Kitna has had one good year and has a poor o-line and one solid WR. Already news that Charles Rogers is benched and Mike Williams is all but gone because he doesn't fit in the new offense. The defense is young and will struggle at times but should be better down the road. I think Detroit finishes with 6 wins at best and the best they can do is 3rd in the North.

I didn't like many of the moves they've made in the off season.

The NFCE & NFCS are the strong divisions in that conference. THE NFCN & NFCW are not as strong. The Bears are a lock in the North IMO. With Favre, I will not rule out Green Bay.

Seattle may get a challenge from the Cardinals but given Arizona's track record am not holding my breath.
