According to DetroitLions.com, Ross Verba is now a Lion. The former Packer and Brown played for Larry Beightol in Green Bay. This appears to be another nice move by our hero ... the next NFL Exectutive of the Year! <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>May 31, DetroitLions.com: Verba (6-4, 305) comes to Detroit after having spent four seasons with Cleveland and his first four NFL seasons with Green Bay. Verba did not play football in 2005 after leaving the Browns June 9. Throughout his eight-year career he has played in 106 games with 100 starts. Verba was drafted by the Packers in the first round (30th overall) of the 1997 NFL Draft. In 2004, Verba returned to Cleveland?s starting lineup at left tackle and was the only Browns? offensive player to start in all 16 regular season games. He missed the 2003 campaign with a bicep injury that he sustained during the final preseason game.</div> <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Tom Kowalski)</div><div class='quotemain'>Quick impressions from the first day of camp --- The Lions signed free agent Ross Verba, who didn't play at all last year, but they've already got him penciled in as the starting left guard. He took reps with the first unit during practice. Verba played for line coach Larry Beightol and against Marinelli's defensive line in Tampa so they know the guy pretty well. By the way, Verba will wear No. 73, the number that was given to rookie fifth-round pick Jonathan Scott in the rookie camp. I don't know if Scott, who is now wearing No. 66, got anything out of it or it was just yanked away from him because he's a rookie. My guess is the latter. --- The Lions cut quarterback Shaun King to make room for Verba and, even though they'll need another arm for training camp, it doesn't look like it's going to be King. Head coach Rod Marinelli said they might look at somebody out of the World League.</div>

Good signing by the lions. Their o-line needs to step up a whole lot for this team to be successful. I think Verba should start a RT, becuase Butler got beat up last year there espcially by speed rushers like Julius Peppers.

I'd have no problem bringing in Brock Berlin as a 4th string training camp QB. It really doesn't matter. The funny thing is that Nick Saban should scoop up Shawn King ... at least then the Dolphins would have someone who can step in for Culpepper! LMAO!

If Verba can knock the rust off, I think this will be a great signing for the Lions. I was hoping he'd end up back in Green Bay...especially after Barry went down.

Charles Rogers practiced with the 3rd string offense in Detroit with Vines and Mike Williams out.. hehe there goes example #2 on why Millen should be fired. Next in line Mikey Williams...

While I like to get you guys going ... stanger things HAVE happened! <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Adam Schein of FoxSports.com praises the Lions for the signing of Ross Verba. June 2, FoxSports.com: Detroit made a really smart move by signing Ross Verba. When focused on football, Verba is a physical offensive lineman. The former Green Bay Packer standout instantly starts for the Lions at left guard. I really think the Lions have had a fantastic "off-season," ranging from the new coaching staff, to the draft, to free agent pick-ups. And in the past, the problem for Detroit wasn't so much talent as it was dedication and focus. That will change with Rod Marinelli, Donnie Henderson and Mike Martz. The Lions can win eight or nine games this year and finish second in the NFC North.</div>

While I like to get you guys going ... stanger things HAVE happened! [/quote] I am glad Detroits getting all this good press for millen. They will keep him longer. It is unfortunate for zacky that while they have managed to impress writers, they rarely have impressed opponents on the field during the millen era. I guess they would rather impress the writers than field a winning football team!
I like the press as well. Mostly because for the last 2 seasons, the Lions have been hyped up in the off season and have falter. Most importantly this year they have higher hopes for the coaching staff, so when the team wins it's 6 or 7 games at tops, they'll be a lot of blame on a 1st year coach who shouldn't have it coming. Once Millen is gone and once they get a QB, then the Lions will be taken seriously by NFL Fans. Perfect example: Bengals.. HC Marvin Lewis (Lions need a GM but someone who knows his stuff) QB Carson Palmer (Kitna and McCowan are nothing more than backups who've gotten they're fair shot)
Kitna actually had a really good season under Marvin and didn't even get a chance to compete against Carson whom was give the reigns immediatly his second year, McCown was in a poor situation in arizona and I think he has a shot to be something more than a backup, Kitna will make the entire lions team better by himself.

Unless he pulls a Mark Brunnel he's more of a backup.
