http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/columns/stor..._ric&id=1955953 We need to give this guy a chance. Hell Im being a fanboy here, but Ive seen him play. Hes abolutely amazing, he doesnt have the shot of a David Wesley, but Chinese teams dont emphasize the three ball. Give him time and he can develop that shot. He knows how to play with Yao and knows how to find teammates. Hes an aggressive defender and extremely disciplined. Hes definately worth an offseason look.
I don't think it'd be a good idea to take a chance on him. However, I felt very sad for him while reading about his situtation...I hope he gets to play somewhere in the NBA.
How long was he with the Sacremento Kings before he got released? Anyways, i've seen him in the olympics this past summer and he's a three point threat. I guess the Rockets can take a look at him in the offseason.
yeah but that three pointer was international standards, its where nick van exel shoots his free throws. he was with the kings for a month or so, his stats may not show it, but he played very well on the defensive end.

However, from Turner's comments, it seems that Liu has excellent court vision, and I don't think it would hurt if we invite him to training camp or summer league. What's the worst that could happen?

I watched some of his international games in China and I really do think this guy should be looked at in the offseason. However, would he really fit into our system. Right now our biggest problem is our power forward position, so unless we do some trades right now, their going to have to be solved in the offseason. I mean, we really don't need a guard right now. In fact, we're kind of packed with them- Gaines, Sura, Ward, Wesley, McGrady, Barrett. Unless we get some trades going, I don't think he'll fit into our roster. Plus, deserving players like Barrett are barely getting any playing time, so what makes you think Wei will have any playing time with the roster we have right now?
one thing that liu wei has said is that the tempo and speed of the chinese game is slow, what do the rockets do every night? they slow down the tempo, for him it would be like playing in china, pass the ball to yao, drive dish the ball out. our system is what he is in now because think about it, the shanghai sharks revolved around yao then as the rockets do now.
I watched a few Chinese games during the summer olympics. I thought he was terrible. Very poor ball-handling skills and decision-making. Perhaps he could improve, but I don't think he's worth taking a chance on right now.
From what I've seen, he gets dominated off the dribble, but he has some raw PG skills. He needs to work on his shot, but if we're keeping Barrett on the IR, I don't see how this guy can make it on our roster.. I don't think he is ready for the NBA in terms of offense either. When he's matched up against a big, defensive player, Antonio Daniels for example, he won't be able to play as smoothly. In the Olympics, defense wasn't really stressed, and touchy fouls were always called. Just my 2 cents.
I dunno, I really doubt he'd help us, Sure he'd work well with Yao Ming, but what about the rest of the team? I'm asian as well so of course i'd like to see him in the NBA but to be honest he won't work with us. It said he had 6 turnovers and 1 assist, and you have to admit thats pretty horrible...
assists depend on whether or not the person you dish the ball to can drain the shot. he played with the kings 3rd squad, they couldnt hit the broad side of a barn.
Whats Liu Wei's position when he was playing with the kings in the preseason games? we sure could use a guard
He might be worth a look but he needs to improve more. Who knows, we might give him a chance come preseason.
