Lloyd McClendon, a hitting coach for the Detroit Tigers under manager Jim Leyland for the past eight years, interviewed for Leyland's old job on Thursday.

McClendon, 54, managed the Pittsburgh Pirates from 2001 to 2005. He was 336-446 before being fired on Sept. 6, 2005. He also has interviewed for managerial jobs in Seattle and Miami over the past few seasons.
