Well, my every Saturday league has started the regular season. It's a six-team league with about 9 players on each team, and 6 shifts every game. Me and two other guys who go to my school carpool there every Saturday, so we're on the same team by default. Our roster breakdown is like this: [Number 1] 6-1 center, can handle the ball well, shoot and has a nice hook shot. Pretty weak rebounder though. [Number 4] 5-11 center/PF. This is one of the guys who car pool with me. He has a huge afro which makes him look 6-3. Can dunk, is a good shotblocker, and also create for himself off the dribble. [Number 32] 5-10 PF. One of the worse guys. Has a nice stroke, but does nothing else. He's a big fat guy who doesn't run the floor, box out or play defense. [Number 33] 5-9 PF/SF. Matt Bonner equivalent. Can shoot, post up, hustles. Best of all, he's white and is a redhead. 100% just like Matt Bonner (Raptors forward for you kids who don't know) [Number 8] 5-9 SG/SF. Me. Good shooter, scrappy player, plays solid defense. Can't handle the ball and is too undersized to play in the post, although I have a good post game. Stationary shooter who can't create for himself. [Number 55] 5-6 SG. Worst kid on the team. Can't defend, doesn't have a proper shooting form, can't make layups. Beginner to bball. I feel sorry for him because he never gets the ball. [Number 44] 5-7 SG/SF. Cousin of the guy above him. A bit better defender but can't shoot either. Second-worst kid on the team. [Number 3] 5-5 PG. Asian guy, pretty good, some good handles. Doesn't shoot well but can drive to the basket. Good in pressure situations. [Number 15] 5-6 PG/SG. Other guy who carpools with me. Captain of the school team, shoots threes at a .500 clip, can get to the rim, and plays good defense. Only thing wrong with him is technicals. He argues with refs and averaged 2.5 T's per game in the exhibition games we played. This league is pretty gay. You can't yell at someone who is taking a shot/layup, nor can you clap your hands. Can't take a shot after a whistle is blown, and no zone D. On to the first game of the season. We got out to a hot start, leading 15-2. I made a three, but we fell behind 35-32 at the second half. I had missed a three on the break, ugly shot which was an airball. Part of the reason was because someone was rushing at me, and I didn't take the time to set up on the shot. So we entered the second half down 3, until Number 4, the power forward, took us back. Singlehandly scored 10 points in a row, including a couple and-ones, and we were up by 7 by the time he was done. So we held on to the lead, but Number 15, our best guard, had fouled out with 2 technicals, both for yelling on a shot. In the end, I had 5 points, going 2-3 from the field, 1-2 from three, 0-2 at the FT line. Had 2 rebounds and a steal. Typical game, you won't see me dropping 20 anytime soon. I'll update this every week, thanks for reading.
Awesome, your off to a better start then my team, and it seems as if you played quite well too! Number 15..Does he get technicals because he thinks it makes him look cool or he just really competitive?
Number 15 gets technicals because he's a heated guy. He tends to speak what he thinks and can be a bit sarcastic at a ref at times. For example, in one of our exhibition games, he had been called for a phantom foul. So he said to the ref: "Why are you calling it on us and not them?" That got him technical number one. On another possession, Number 4 was fouled on a layup but was called for a travel. 15 first tried to argue with the ref, then when it became clear he won't get it, he said: "Good call ref". That was tech 2. As he was going to the bench, he yelled "ref sucks", tech 3.

Do you get ejected after 2 techs there? I mean I thought you did but then I read number 15 gets 2.5 a game which means everytime he got 2 techs he would get a tech on the way out...
Hey Locke I have something going too. Its me and 7 of my friends that play in tournaments year round. WE won last year by going 5-4 in regular season play and went 3-0 in playoffs with stunning victories Heres the line up: STARTERS: [Number 21, 6 3 (C/PF/SF/PG)] I'm the second best player on the team in the fact that I'm the tallest player, can dunk, shoot, dribble and get most of the shots because the offense is run through my post game. [Number 32 6 0 (PF/C/PG)] best player on the team because he can also do it all. Like me he handles the ball in the second and third quarter. He can drive to the basket aggresivley and has the only problem of tiring out fast and sitting on the bench for periods of time. He can rebound and in my opinion is the best player. [Number 1 5 10 (SG/SF)] The best pure shooter I've seen in a long time. He's our go to guy but has problems of showing off to much and taking to many shots and missing. His field goal percentage is .215. He cost us our first exibition game. If he played team ball he'd be a good player [Number 15 SG/SF 5 10] No Doubt the spark in the starting line up. If we need a shot hell be the one to shoot it and make it. Lacks on D but is a beast on the offensive side. Handles the ball in fast break situations and full court press [Number 3 PG 5 6]He is the captain because he created the team. Scrappy and hustles. Great D but not so much of a shooter unless in pressure situations. Other than towards the end of the game when we are desperatley in need of a shot He will miss. Great ball handling skills and assists. He is to undersized and is blockd often. BENCH [NUMBER 11 5 11 PF/C] This guy is big. Has a horrible vertical but can knock down a shot. He can get a rebound for you and is good at D when gaurding a post player but is horrible on the perimeter because of lack of speed. [NUMBER 23 5 10 SG] I can easily say he has no aggresion game because he will take a shot and that is all. If we need a rebound He'll get it for us but gets nervous to quick and will turn it over constantly. Youngest player on the team. Advantages: We've been playing for so long together and the fact that im on varsity for my school provides a sense of where everyone is and lots of chemistry and many plays thanks to my coach at school. We are a great defensive team in man to man and zone, but have problems with stopping the split of the double team. We are an unselfish team except for 1. Disadvantages: on offense we will have great spurts but then go on a drought for a long time. Nervousness and pressure plague most of the team. Transition defense is a huge factor.
My upcoming rec league is going to consist of 25+ year old black guys, college pickup players, and old farts. The last time I scrimmaged against a rec team, I blocked this 6'5 guys layup, not just a touch, I swatted it with authority. Then he authoritarily dunked it on my silly a** the next trip down the court.
Played our second game of the season today, and we won 56-46. I played like sh!t though, about 4 turnovers when they pressed us full court. Shot 0-3, had about 3 rebounds, and that's it. I airballed a three early in the game and it seems to me that I never got my confidence back after that.
Sounds like me...I have to do well so I can make shots, but if I'm down and don't have confidence I play rough defense and eventually the player your gaurding will get mad and do something like run into you and knock you down or you'll get called for a foul that you don't agree with. I take that as motivation to pick up my game and then i drive the lane every time. Especially when i get knocked down. I get mad even though its a part of the game.
Well, we'll be missing our top three players and ballhandlers this coming game. We'll have just 6 players and I guess I'll play some point.
I pound people on defense I love it. I don't care if I get called for a foul, if my knocking you down ensures that you won't get back in the paint that's all that matters. Same thing in pickup football games, my goal is to hit you so effing hard that you won't want to run a deep route. (After two mild concussions caused by yours truly, the opposing team stopped running deep routes)
Played our third game of the season with just 5 players. We were missing our top 3 guys, #1, 4 and 15, so it was known that we wouldn't do too hot. Everyone played the whole game. The opponents got out to a 15-0 start and that was the end of the game. We lost eventually 68-42. Number 33 dropped 20 including 5 contested threes, and was basically the only bright spot on the team. We tried to post Number 32 many times and he was BAD. He'd get double-teamed and chuck it up anyways, or catch the ball on the wing and just shoot it without any hesitation. Scored about 6, but took something like 15 shots. As predicted, I played some point, and turned it over just once. However, when I wasn't point, I would be in the corner stretching the floor, but as previously noted, Number 32 didn't pass out of double teams. I took just 2 shots, both threes, and went 1-2 on them. Had about 5 rebounds, 2 offensive, and 3 assists. The game, though, was so disappointing that the guys on our team even stopped defending the fast break. I would be the guy running from the deep end of the floor to the other end on a 4-1 fast break. The other guys on my team just walked it up. I was so pissed off this game, man. Still fuming. Anyways, we get everyone back for one more game before breaking for Christmas, so I hope we'll end the year on a good note.

<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Dan Le:</div><div class="quote_post">Damn that sucks, least now you sort of know how to feel playing on my team...But it seems as if you played quite well, was the team you were playing a top team or anything?</div> Nah, the other team had just five guys as well, but the talent level was evidently higher for them. And I didn't do too well considering I played a whole game.
We won today, 65-63. We led by 16 at halftime but the other team's shooters made some pull-up J's to bring them back. Then #15 took over. He slashed to the basket and had a couple nice and-1 plays, then hit two contested threes. He also blocked a potential game-winning three with one second left to win us the game. I went 1-2 again, both three pointers, and had 4 rebounds and 2 steals.
Okay, we're done. A fourth place finish among six teams. No trophy this time around. It's been a pretty good season, but I kinda got tired of the ***** calls near the end. Went out in the semifinals today and I fouled out, mostly touch fouls or phantom calls where I was alleged to have pushed them from behind. Probably averaged around 4 a game.
