Lockout got you down? Analyze this trade idea! Toronto in - Marvin Williams (7.5m/3 years), Kirk Hinrich (8.1m/1 year), Zaza Pachulia (4.75m/2 yr) Atlanta in - Andrea Bargnani (9.25m/4 years), Jose Calderon (9.78m/2 years) Hollinger analysis - Atlanta +5 wins, Toronto -1 win Why for Toronto? Give up Bargnani and Calderon to cut the remaining ties to our old, defense-less image. As much as I like Bargs (and Calderon to some extent), they doesn't really have any place on the team any more. Kirk Hinrich is an expiring contract but also a good defender who can back up Bayless (whenever the season starts) and play some back up SG. Zaza is a tough, defensive minded centre who can be a stop gag at the position until Val comes over. The centre piece of the trade is Marvin Williams. Former number 2 pick (picked ahead of Deron Williams and Chris Paul). I feel he still has some potential and may need a change of scenery. Worst comes, he plays behind whoever we draft next year. Why for Atlanta? Get the best player in the trade in Bargnani and a serviceable point guard who can guide Teague who is their point guard of the future. Since Teague is the future, they are probably not too attached to Kirk. Marvin Williams has really underperformed in Atlanta so they are not loosing much there. A front court of Bargs, Smith and Horford seems really scary as Horford and Smith are both great defenders and rebounders to hide Bargs. Offensively, that front court will be a nightmare to guard.
I'm not the biggest Marvin or Kirk fan, I think we'd actually get worse with them on our team. We need to trade Bargs & Jose for a good fucking PG.
Bargs will not help you as a first option. He is at most a good player for when your back ups need a rest
i actually like this trade but atl wont do this because of the hefty salary commitment particularly in light of the new restrictive cba. moreover, horford doesnt want to play centre and neither does bargs
