Looking back at the recent success of each player in the Beckett/Lowell for Ramirez/Sanchez deal, would you still do it? We all know that Beckett is a stud and Lowell was the MVP of our team this past season, but Ramirez is the best SS in the baseball (Rollins takes a backseat to Hanley in my book) at a very, very young age, and Anibel Sanchez is a number one in the making, already throwing a no-hitter as a rookie. I know that in the short term the trade benefited the Red Sox, but would you take the World Series victory over the prospect of having a possible number one and the best SS in the game on the team rather than an aging gold glove caliber 3B and arguably the best SP in the big leagues?

    Thoughts?

I would do it again, the World Series victory far outweights any star(s) in the making. I think we'll always have prospects as a team, that will become great ones, like Papelbon, Buchholz, and Ellsbury.

Yupp, I was thinking the same thing. I agree that the trade was good, but I've brought the subject up with a few people and have gotten pretty different results. I'm just glad we never went after A.J Burnett.

I'd do it again. Beckett is at the start of his prime years and we have the offense to cover what Ramirez would provide. Sanchez is a potential number one, but Beckett is establishing himself as the premier playoff pitcher of the generation. Very significant difference there.

Lets remember, Lowell was just a throw in.

I'd kill to have Ramirez still but then we wouldn't have Beckett.

Who wouldn't take a World Series Championship?

The reason you'd get Hanley would be to eventually get a championship. If you could get one now, why would you do anything differently?

    Lucky sox.

Haha, it's hilarious to even think about people still disagreeing with the trade. Hanley Ramirez is a singles hitter in the National League that plays a subpar defensive shortstop. Sanchez is an above average prospect that would project to a number 3 starter at best in the American League.

Josh Beckett is arguably the best pitcher in baseball, and he becomes an even better pitcher in the postseason, and he's still young. I'd be happy with the deal, even if they didn't get Lowell.

I'm not disagreeing with the trade, it was the right thing to do, but I just think Hanley's going to be something else. I understand that you have to give up something to get something back.

No one here is disagreeing with the trade. And I'm not sure how a SS with 29 HR can be called a 'singles hitter.'

I know nobody here has disagreed with it, but we aren't the only people in the world. We've all heard our share of people who still disagree with it.

And wow, he must have hit most of those HRs late in the season because I had him early on in my fantasy league and he didn't hit for any power. You have to admit that the pitching in the NL is horrible, though. No way would he hit for that much power in the AL.

You're certainly right. He was playing in a weak division marred with weaker pitching. I think I could hit 25 HR off the Mets' pitching staff this year.

You really must have not been paying any attention at all to Hanley to refer to him as a singles hitter. Even sans the 29 HRs he had 54 other extra base hits (48 doubles, 6 home runs). That's 83 total extra base hits out of his 212 total. Hardly a singles hitter.

I was looking for his XBH but didn't know where to find the stat. What do you use for your baseball stats and such?
