<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">One of the offshoots of the Milwaukee Bucks' success over the past few weeks is that it has enhanced guard Michael Redd's chances to be named to the NBA's Eastern Conference all-star team.

Redd has posted all-star-caliber numbers all season, but in selecting the all-star reserves in the past few years, the league's coaches have shown an inclination to go with players from winning teams.

"I know I do," Bucks coach Terry Stotts said.

Redd on Tuesday was named the Eastern Conference player of the week for the second time this season after averaging 27.0 points, 5.3 rebounds and 3.0 assists per contest in leading the Bucks to a 3-1 record in games played between Christmas Day and New Year's Day.

Redd ranked seventh in the most recent fan balloting. Miami's Dwyane Wade and New Jersey's Vince Carter were the top two vote-getters among Eastern Conference guards. Allen Iverson actually had more votes than Carter but he now plays in the Western Conference since his trade to Denver.

The third update on the voting will be made public on Thursday. The all-star starters, as determined by fan balloting, will be announced Jan. 25. The reserves, as selected by the coaches, will be announced Feb. 1.

If the coaches stick with players from winning teams, Redd should be in good shape. But that is not always the case.

"All I know is (Boston's) Paul Pierce and (Toronto's) Chris Bosh made it last year from teams that were not in playoff contention," Stotts said. "That's why I was upset last year that Michael didn't make it because we were a playoff team.

"That was one of the reasons Paul Pierce made it over LeBron (James) in LeBron's rookie year. . . . Boston had a better record than LeBron's team. That's why I thought there was no question Michael should have made it last year."</div>
