Outkast splits up! mediatakeout.com August 7. For years insiders have been predicting the break up of the famed group Outkast. It now appears that their predictions have finally come true. MediaTakeOut.com has learned that the Atlanta duo has officially decided to part ways. Over the weekend two Atlanta producers told MediaTakeOut.com that Outkast has decided to call it quits. According to one producer who worked closely with the group, "Andre isn't interested in making hip-hop music anymore, so there really isn't a purpose for Outkast." And Andre Benjamin's public remarks seem to confirm the producers' account. In a 2003 interview with the New York Times, Benjamin said that he was no longer interested in hip hop, explaining, "I don't feel the music the same way I did when I first got into hip-hop." And last year during an interview with London's The Guardian, Benjamin told a reporter that he was ready to step away from his music career. Andre's ambivalence about his music career has already cost the duo millions of dollars in touring fees. Outcast fans begged the group for a world tour after its last album sold 10 million records. But the wanna-be-actor refused to go on tour with his partner, Antwon "Big Boi" Patton. Instead of having an Outkast tour, Big Boi was forced to go on tour as one of the opening acts for Usher and Kanye West. But with rumors of a break up swirling for a couple of years, the question remains - why didn't Outkast break up sooner? One music industry insider claims to have the answer to the question. According to our tipster, Outkast's contract with LaFace records contained a clause granting the group an additional $10M if they were able to complete a seventh album. Their seventh album - Idlewild is scheduled to be released in stores on August 28th. Developing... ____________________________________________________________ I can't say it surprises me considering they didn't work together on The Love Below and they only did 4 songs together on the new album, but it kinda sucks that my favorite group won't be making music together anymore.
I dont know if i'd call andre a "wannabe" actor. He was good in four brothers, and seems to be getting solid roles. I never really like outcast besides their first few hits.
Wasn't Andre scheduled to play Jimi Hendrix in an upcoming film? It sucks to see them go and they are one of the best musical groups ever.
all good things come to an end, and Kast has been doin it since I was in elementary school blazin ATLiens so if they feel it's time artistically then you can't really be mad at them.
about a week ago they said they weren't http://musicnews.virgin.net/Virgin/Lifesty...4_music,00.html idk i really like outkast they are one of the ew rap acts i still listen to, i hope that they dont break up
With a **** bag song like that new one (Morris Brown its called I think) by big boi, I'm glad they've split up. What pisses me off even more is that the song is stuck in my head.
This sucks....They were my favorite. I will buy all their albums as they are obvious keep sakes and are great nonetheless.
Outkast Didn't Break up http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/1538157/0...?headlines=true Andre said he was in shock when he heard that rumor, and he assured that, that rumor was false. Yes!!!
^^Beat me to it! I'm glad it's false and they may perform in a video together for the first time in a while!!!!
for some odd reason I still think the break up might be true....I mean in reality they are broken up, they only did 4 songs together on the new album.
Yeah, in truth, they really aren't doing much together. I mean, I heard Andre and Big Boi even have seperate tour buses. The two just don't seem to have it together like they did back with ATLiens and the earlier albums. I shame though, but if they lost inspiration, there really isn't anything you can do about it.

I think Outkast are pretty overated anyway, I didnt think ATLiens or any of their older albums were that great, I've heard better from other artists.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting NTC187:</div><div class="quote_post">I think Outkast are pretty overated anyway, I didnt think ATLiens or any of their older albums were that great, I've heard better from other artists.</div> i hear what youre saying but look ATLiens is 11 years old. how many hiphop albums that are 11 years old can you listen to today and feel? in 30 years Outkast will be looked at as one of the defining artists of this era. there are a lot of other good rappers out there like Big L, Kool G, Ghostface, etc. but none of them will be able to claim that. outkast is bigger than hiphop. more non-hip-hop fans have an outkast CD that have never even heard of wu-tang or gang starr. even lesbians listen to outkast. i've seen college kids that have 1000 CDs and only one of them is hiphop and it's always outkast. they crossed over more people than Eminem and he's white. they are like the prince or michael jackson of our time. you might not like 'kast that much but their place in pop culture is huge.
^^ i totally agree i have a lot of friends that listen to punl/metal and i went over some of thier houses and they'd have like a bunch of punk and metal cd's and all of them had an outkast cd.
Yeah but those people dont have the CD's because of Outkasts impact on the scene, more so because they're the kool thing at the time (eg. "Ms. Jackson", "Hey Ya" etc.). Most people dont buy Outkast albums thinking "oh man, this ish will be the truth". Those people arnt the real heads though of course, but I'm just saying, thats really the only reason they have such a big pop culture following. Not to mention those songs they have released to the mainstream have been quite bizare.
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">I think Outkast are pretty overated anyway, I didnt think ATLiens or any of their older albums were that great, I've heard better from other artists.</div> Outkast > damn near everybody...lol....just because they attract a broad audience doesn't make them "pop" or not for the "real heads"...I am a head, but Outkast is my favorite group because they have been consistent over the years, lyrically they always come correct (even when Dre's singing), and they have their classics.....I notice that a lot of "heads" don't like giving Andre his props because he wears a wig and does funny videos and well......."that jus ain't hip hop", but they'll be quick to love someone like Big L (who was also great and who I'm also a fan of) props because he seems to represent what "hip hop is"....Dre is a top 10 MC EASILY if you really wanna break it down pound for pound.
