Wow, good trade for White Soxs, news on Bucholtz must be bad. Peavy is decent but beatable I feel. In a way I'm suprised that the Red Soxs included Inglesis. That makes Ramirez moveable then.
That's a big drop down from Cliff Lee. Just not a ton available out there this year. Peavy is nothing special.
He is one of there power hitting young outfielders who had some success last year I believe. But here is the reason most likely. "This is one of the worst things I've ever seen in baseball," one longtime executive grumbled late Monday. "They've got all the evidence. They've had it forever. And they've held off on telling anybody what's going to happen. And now the trading deadline is here, and nobody knows anything. It's not fair. It's not fair to the clubs with those players [on the Biogenesis list]. And it's not fair to the clubs they're playing." Are the Rangers going to have to play the rest of the season without Nelson Cruz, a fellow who is fifth in the American League in home runs? Are the Tigers going to lose shortstop Jhonny Peralta, who is second among AL shortstops in slugging and OPS?
Cliff lee wasn't realistic. Peavy has been their target for a while. Shocked they parted with inglesias as they haven't had a SS worth spit since Nomar over there. Guess they figured his hitting this year was a fluke and he would never be an offensive force.
No matter what Inglesis did, they didn't seem sold did they. That means Beogarts is there boy or big money for Drew.
No telling how Peavy will do in the AL East but what is guaranteed is ESPN and the like gushing over Cherington for this deal. He's the new Epstein…so savvy!
Maybe so but I do t think Lee is going anywhere. Phil's were trying to get someone to back the truck up for him.
With that offense, Peavy will be fine, and I'm not so sure they gave up much in Jose Iglesias, sure he was hot this year but has cooled off and what has he done before? time will tell if Boston paid a high price in this deal but I'm thinking no, they didn't, and they sold Iglesias when his stock was high.
...Iglesias has not cooled off any more than Peavy lately. Iglesias was hitting over .400 with an OPS of near 1.000 through June, so it was not realistic to think he'd keep up that kind of pace. Scouts rave about him and he actually hits better on the road than at Fenway. ...Peavy has allowed 18 earned runs in his last 19.1 innings pitched and has a 4.28 ERA, not exactly stellar.
I suppose, but again, Peavy can do fine with that offense behind him, and Iglesias has done nothing before this year, time will tell.
...a lot of pitchers would win more games with Boston's offense, but Peavy is a #3 starter, and not a very good one. I can't imagine his ERA actually going down by pitching at Fenway. ...Peavy has a hard time staying healthy and in 3 years or less will be out of Baseball...Iglesias will be 26 then. ...I just don't see that Peavy makes Boston that much better, if at all...IMO, Detroit was the winner of that 3-way trade.
