I must say that although I'm trying to get used to the idea that the Wolves traded for Love and there is an upside to all this I can't help but shake the feeling that this shouldn't have happened.

The Front office keeps preaching that it filled multiple needs, it filled a need for a big man, it filled a need for a perimeter scorer, it filled a need in getting rid of Jaric's 21mil over three year crap contract...need, need, need, need....NEED

I'm worried that the last time a team preached the whole drafting need over talent the Bulls walked away with Michael Jordan. I'm in no way compairing Mayo to Jordan, just the situation.

I'm a diehard Timberwolves fan and that will be my team no matter what, so I support and try to find the logic in what our team does and love them just the same...it doesn't mean I have to like it though...[IMG] I just don't see Love being as big a player as Mayo down the road...I don't see All-Star games or big endorsments like i see for Mayo (hell, he signed with Nike before the draft!!!). Love just isn't what I call a "Sexy-pick"...he won't fill up highlight reels with athletic reverses or fill up seats the way Mayo will.

I'm just saying that we are a rebuilding team, why not keep Mayo and build around him and the 6 picks we can possible have next year (3 in 2010) what was the rush to trade Walker's exp contract for Miller's 9mil contract over two years?

Need over talent....Love over Mayo...Bowie over Jordan.....I'm jst worried is all I'm sayin'.....

I'm with you. My other thing is Hoiberg and McHale said that this was a deal "they couldn't pass up"; I think you take out Miller, put in Gay (not saying that would ever happen) and then you have a deal you absolutely cannot pass up. The deal we ended up with gave us a bad contract, if fact it didn't help us with the cap space.

All of this will be decided when the season begins and Mayo and Love will show what they got. That will decide who got the better end of the trade.

the bad contract deal actually helps us in the big summer of free-agents in 2010. instead of still having jaric's 7.5 mil , Cardinal's contract as well as Miller's 9mil contract ends. And Miller seems like the type that if he enjoys the Wolves and the direction their going (or at by year two) I'm sure we can get him back at a reasonable price.

Another thing I don't get is after trading Chalmer's we didn't get back one of the three young talented PG's from memphis?!?!?...I just don't get that!!!

But your right...it'll take waiting until the smoke settles to see how it went...but I still think we should've kept Mayo...[IMG]

I'm with you on the Chalmbers thing. I wouldn't have cared which of the four we would have gotten (Lowry, Crittenton, Chalmbers, Conley; no chance at him i think) McHale talked about needs, but he had a point guard, which is a big need for us, and then traded him and didn't get one back in the deal!!!

It's not bad that we got two of Miami's three 2nd Round picks by trading Chalmers to Miami...it just that after that trade before we made the Memphis trade and no PG? Memphis has (like you pointed out) three good young PG that could help us...Conley probably was off-limits to us....but Conley or Crittenton? Either one would've helped up immensly

I disagree. This season won't decide who got the better end of the deal. Why? Because I don't think Love/Miller will get this team in the playoffs regardless. Would Mayo have singlehandedly? No, absolutely not, but why pass up on the far superior talent just to fill holes on a team that isn't ready to compete as it is? In addition, I hate Love's fit with Jefferson. Big Al needs a center to help him control the paint and allow him slide back to his natural position (PF), not a smaller and less mobile partner. Jefferson/Love will be one of the worst defensive frontcourt duos in the league.

I think this deal was HORRIBLE for Minnesota. Horrible. As mentioned above, this doesn't make them a playoff team. It takes them from the third-worst team to maybe the 7th or 8th worst team. By the time the Wolves are ready to take the next step, Miller won't even be there. So, this really comes down to Mayo vs. Love, and I don't think there is even an argument. Love is a good player, while I believe Mayo is a flat-out star.

Not only is Mayo a big time scorer, he's one hell of a defender. People are quick to point out Jefferson's defensive struggles last year because he couldn't protect the paint... how about the perimeter defense that allowed players to cut into the lane at will? Mayo would have helped that.

As one Wolves fan said on a team fan site: "The biggest problem with this trade is... we're mediocre."? That is where this franchise is destined, because of McHale.

You build the foundation, and then fill holes. Not the other way around.

I'm sorry Wolves fans, I really am. I feel bad for you. I thought I had it bad as a Celtics fan a couple of years ago... no. I really didn't. You guys have it worse, and it's a shame because Wolves fans are incredibly loyal. You guys don't deserve this at all.
