Some American idiots, a man who walked on the Wild Side, and the goofy drummer for one of the all-time greatest bands will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame next year, the institution announced Monday.

The late Lou Reed, the frontman for The Velvet Underground and man behind "Walk on the Wild Side," led this year's class, which also includes Bay Area punk rockers Green Day and The Beatles drummer Ringo Starr. The list also includes Joan Jett & the Blackhearts, Bill Withers, Stevie Ray Vaughan & Double Trouble, the Paul Butterfield Blues Band, and the "5" Royales.

Starr gets in under the Award for Musical Excellence, which honors musicians who "spent their careers out of the spotlight working with major artists on various parts of their recording and live careers." Bruce Springsteen's E Street Band was admitted into the Hall in this category earlier this year. The Beatles were inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1988.
