A month ago, Kregg Lumpkin was an undrafted free agent trying to get noticed among a deep group of experienced running backs in the Green Bay Packers' training camp. On Wednesday, Lumpkin was the No. 1 running back in practice. With starter Ryan Grant nursing a nagging hamstring injury and primary backup Brandon Jackson sidelined in the aftermath of a concussion he apparently sustained during Monday's victory over Minnesota, Lumpkin took the majority of snaps behind Aaron Rodgers on Wednesday. Despite the injuries, Packers coach Mike McCarthy didn't make it sound like the Packers were inclined to bring back either of the more experienced backs the Packers cut, Noah Herron or Vernand Morency. "I don't think so," McCarthy said. "Just trusting the doctors and the information that was given to me today, I feel confident that Brandon will be ready to go for the Detroit game. And also we're going to rest Ryan Grant until Friday, and I'm hopeful that he'll be able to go also." But if Lumpkin did have to take on a major role in the offense at Detroit on Sunday, McCarthy said he would be able to handle it. http://www.startribune.com/sports/vikings/28206414.html?elr=KArksi8cyaiU9PmP:QiUiacyKUnciaec8O7EyU
