You won't find this Duck fan pointing fingers and mocking Oregon State because I've been following recruiting long enough to recognize an untrustworthy creep when I see it. As I said earlier, Oregon is guilty of dealing with a piss-poor business man. Again, I caution all you who are cheering the feeding frenzy and anticipating major violations. The more this develops, the stronger I feel we'll see Oregon guilty of minor violations with minimal sanctions. Lyles: “Who do you think got Oregon State on (running back) Storm Woods?... I gave him to (former Beavers assistant) Reggie Davis. I was the one dealing with Oregon State. And I gave James Rodgers to Laney College (a junior college) who gave him to (offensive coordinator) Danny Langsdorf at Oregon State.” "Canzano: For this, I called Lyles a slimeball. Also, I questioned his credibility. When you talk with Lyles, you understand you're mostly just listening and interjecting questions that redirect the conversation. He likes to talk. There's a bit of smooth-talker in him... What's true is that Lyles didn't have a clue how to run and organize a sophisticated business operation..." "“Lyles: I did a lot of work. I felt my service was worth every penny. I overstepped the line some… helping (Seastrunk) get the (letter of intent) done was over the line… I didn’t know it was the wrong thing to do." http://www.oregonlive.com/sports/or...f/2011/07/canzano_willie_lyles_tells_how.html
So let me get this straight.... When Lyles is smearing Oregon, Canzano is happy as a clam, but when he's talking about OSU it's all bullshit?
Yes, and some will also notice that Lyles is demonstrating some interesting behavior. He is not only painting himself as the victim (they all hate me - Texas, LSU, media, fans, etc.) he also is presenting himself as a martyr in that he claims he did it all for the kids, helped so many and few people/programs/student athletes would be where they are without him. Let the interviews with Lyles continue. Every time he opens his mouth he becomes less trustworthy and exposes himself as a story-changing creep. Oregon will be fine.
I'm not sure in what context you are speaking. Can you be more specific as to what I am reaching for? No one said OSU paid Lyles, nor did anyone imply OSU did anything wrong. The point surrounds suspicious information contained in the article -- has to do with Lyles, his integrity, his claims and the words he chooses. The same guy that has now changed is story twice is the same guy who says Oregon paid for influence is the same guy who says he "gave" players to Oregon State. We're dealing with a character here, son. A rather odd, suspicious fellow who every time opens his mouth begins to draw in more programs and the overall picture blurs more and more. Hope that was clear enough for you. On a personal note, lest you think I despise all things orange and black, not even sure if you're a Beav fan, but I can't count how many games I've attended at Parker, now Reser Stadium. Used to be in the 80's you could walk right into the stadium without even paying and take in a game with a few thousand other fans. I've had a few friends play and was a big Pettibone fan. My favorite Beav games were taken in with four good friends, in the front row behind the Beav bench in 94 when OSU upset good UCLA and WSU teams. I like Riley as a person (have met and chatted with him) and you'll usually find me rooting for the Beavs on any given Saturday. I do reserve the right to level a fair share of good natured trash talking, as my heart and alliances lie due south.
Fair enough Targus. I apologize if I come across as abrasive at times. I can tell you that I have been to games at Autzen and some of my best friends are Ducks. Of course I'm obviously a Beav and a season ticket holder at Reser as well. The lack of success we've had against the Ducks the last few years has definitely irritated me and I'm sure I've allowed that to cloud my judgment when evaluating the UofO program.
No worries, TL. All understandable. There is just a season of bad happenings in college football and I think it's bad for everyone. I look forward to having these issues pass so we can get on to healthy bashing and belittling... Katz!!??? Are you kidding me!!?? You mean the dude who spent the Civil War on his back and throwing three picks, while Thomas goes 14/24 w/ 2 TDs??
Thomas is a better football player. But I doubt Thomas will ever be anything in the NFL as his skills don't translate well. Katz can be a better actual quarterback. Not saying he will be, but he could be.
Except he can't hit the broadside of a barn. He reminds me a lot of Derek Anderson. All arm, no accuracy. That doesn't translate to the pros. DT won't be an NFL QB either. Thomas is and will be the better college QB.
how don't DT's skills translate to the league? As opposed to Katz, he has decent NFL QB size. He's also got an accurate big gun for an arm. His downfield throws really opened things up for Oregon's offense last season. Dude is both mobile and cool under pressure/willing to stay in the pocket and take a big hit as he demonstrated many times last year. In his first season starting and he ended up 2nd team All Pac 10. I'd also point out that the last two #1 overall picks were QBs from spread offenses STOMP
I think people are mistaking DT for a RB who can throw just cause he plays at Oregon. The dude had something like a 4.9 40 last year.
I've said this before on Thomas, I think he has a better shot at the Heisman this year then James. It will be his 2nd year starting, so he should be more comfortable running the show. Last year's wide receivers collectively were... not fast. The Ducks have added a number of speed burners which should only increase DT's effectiveness. Because Barner was down with a serious concussion last season, LaMichael ended carrying more of the running load then he is likely to shoulder this year. They'll also have Seastrunk and maybe De'Anthony to turn to. If LJ's numbers are down (mostly because they're spreading those opportunities around more) while Darron's are up, and they're still annihilating opponents, I expect the spotlight to shift. STOMP
very valid point. Health permitted I do not want LMJ carrying the load he did last year. With the embarrassment of riches at RB I want some carries for LMJ, Barner, and Seastrunk, but also Barner lining up in the slot some this year as well. be interesting to see which WR's make an impact, Vaughn naturally cause he is older. But I still think that Hawkins will be a solid receiver like Davis was, nothing flashy, but sure handed, and has the size to help with the blocking downfield. I'm kinda worried how that blocking downfield with the loss of physicality from Maehl and Davis. Hopefully Vaughn and Hawkins can provide that, cause I'm not sure Blackmon, Sumler, or even Kelly and Huff will be able to duplicate it.
I seriously doubt either one will sniff the Heisman this year. The Ducks lost a lot of guys off their O-line. I'm guessing that DT's composure in the pocket will be severely tested.
