<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">While the 76ers' 7-foot center - who's been sidelined since February 2003 with nerve damage in his feet caused by Marie-Charcot-Tooth disease - continues to seek a cure, he knows realistically that the clock is ticking.

Barring any more moves before the opening of training camp Oct. 5 - a two-for-one trade, for instance - the Sixers have 16 players under contract. Only 15 can remain on the squad. MacCulloch is one of the 16 - the most logical one to go, forced into retirement at age 28.

If that does happen, however, MacCulloch will go with an eye toward coming back if his search for relief somehow proves successful.

"Yeah, that's certainly a possibility," MacCulloch said of retirement. "I guess I need to learn the ins and outs of what happens, but having the ability to come back certainly is something that's important to me if this or some other procedure or treatment would allow me to play. I'd really love to have the ability to come back. It might not be immediately, it may not be this season, but I'd certainly like to leave a crack in the door in case something allows me to get back at it."

He wouldn't be the first. Alonzo Mourning retired with a kidney ailment, then came back with the New Jersey Nets. Soon afterward, however, his condition worsened and he was forced out again, the second time to undergo a kidney transplant. Even so, Mourning reportedly is considering giving basketball another try.</div>

Sadly, if MacCulloch retires, it's probably best for the 76ers. Him retiring would be alot of salary cap space for the sixers, allowing them to sign or trade for better player(s). <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">

    Associated Press
PHILADELPHIA -- Todd MacCulloch's mysterious foot disorder has cost him the last 1? seasons with Philadelphia. A comeback doesn't seem likely.
While MacCulloch isn't ready to announce his retirement, the 76ers center knows he may never play again.
"There have been no significant improvements, unfortunately," MacCulloch said Wednesday in a phone interview with The Associated Press. "I'm hoping for a miracle, really."

Last season, the 76ers were limited to using just 11 players, AND injuries not included. MacCullough retiring would mean a brighter future for the 76ers, although to me it would be nice to see him stay within the organization somehow.

Ah, we had a bunch of these retirement threads, and the articles basically all say the same thing. I'm getting tired of all the drama surrounding Todd nowadays.
