I don't have a link, because I read this on an Israeli site, but Maccabi Tel-Aviv's Maceo Baston is about to sign with the Pacers for $1.5 million a year for two years. He's a PF, for anybody who doesn't know. Very athletic, and good at blocking shots, but he won't give much else. His rebounding and offensive skills are weak, especially his free throw shooting. He probably won't play much, anyway.
That's a little weird because just a couple of hours ago, I saw a news article saying "Maceo Baston re-signs with Maccabi Tel-Aviv" Must be false news on my part. Edit- This is the only thing I found <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">However, Nikola Vujcic and Maceo Baston both upgraded their contracts, and due to the current security situation, the Maccabi is having to pay out larger sums to bring in new foreign signings. </div> Source
I loved Baston in Maccabi, he and Sarunas should have a pretty good connection if they are on the court at the same time.
Didn't he also play for the Raptors at one point? I think I remember seeing him on the Raptors roster in NBA Live 2001 or something.
I don't know if this'll be one of those signings where a top European player comes over and shows that he can be significant contributor (eg: Nocioni, Jasikevicius). Baston's only a couple years removed from the NBA and I think his improved play in Europe is more a result of the weaker competition, than his own improvement. I'm skeptical of how much playing time he'll earn.
Maybe a move to help keep Jasikevicius? They have the chemistry, so at least something good should come out of it.
