This is crazy to think. Machida, as amazing a fighter as he is, is 6-6 since 2010. This is after winning the first 16 fights of his career. The slide started with the rematch against Shogun which he lost by knockout. He then lost a split decision to Rampage Jackson before rebounding against an aged Randy Couture (in his last fight). After that he was tooled by Jon Jones for his third loss in four fights. He rebounded again with wins over Ryan Bader and Dan Henderson before losing a decision to Phil Davis and prompting his move to middleweight. He had early success in the division with a win over Mark Munoz and another against Gegard Mousasi but lost in his bid for the title against Chris Weidman in a competitive fight. His last fight was a win over CB Dolloway. His loss against Luke Rockhold was arguably more complete than against Jon Jones. The 36-year old could face the likes of Michael Bisping or Thales Leites in his next bout.
1. Lyoto Machida (6-6 since 2010) 2. Junior dos Santos (2-2 since 2012) 3. Frankie Edgar (3-3 since 2012)
This is always going to be a dilema for UFC. Serious fans are impressed by highly competitive fights, while casual/new fans are impressed with shiny W/L records.
In tangentially related news Michael Bisping would refuse a rematch with Dan Henderson (1-5 in his last six) because he is a washed up old man and no AC would sanction it. Salty, one might say.
Lol...Hendo has no need to rematch him. Bisping can't hold Hendo's jock strap. If they fought today, I'd still take Hendo via H bomb.
